Just to be clear there is a shit ton of stuff O&G’s do that is not related to giving birth, all of it healthcare

in case anybody's wondering about how viral this really was, I gave a talk at McGill today and included video of the haka led by MP Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke as an example of music in protest of the ~100 people there, roughly 2/3 had seen it (Montréal is about 15,000 km away from NZ) #nzpol

'We need to stand up for what is right' - Phil Goff doesn't regret Trump comments 🙏🏼 www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

I agree with all of this except that there is a grand scheme, it's just awful and pointless and cooked up by failed right wing radio hosts -- to destroy democracy

Spent my off-social-media morning writing a submission on the #RightToRepair bill, and that was probably a far better use of my time.

#BHN The way you know Winston Peters is using the Benjamin Doyle accusations as a political tool and not as a concern for children is easily seen if you google "Winston Peters Tim Jago" because it leads to nothing...he had no comments on Tim Jago #nuffsaid

Kia ora koutou, New to here, but not new to this. Te Pāti Māori has been on the frontlines, fighting for our whānau, defending Te Tiriti, and pushing for a future where Māori thrive. This isn’t a moment. It’s a movement. Follow the kaupapa. @whaeadeb.bsky.social @rawiriwaititimp.bsky.social #NZPol

Superb post from Mohan.

*applause* The very same day Stuff runs an article suggesting the GG story was a hit job shopped to them by dirty politics operators who hate the Greens, they headline another hit job clearly set up by dirty politics operators who hate the Greens

Nicola Willis doesn't think the people who clean her office or keep her workplace secure deserve #LivingWage. Tonight some of those workers told us how the Living Wage has improved their lives. They deserve to thrive, not just survive. Tell Nicola that. Make a submission before April 8. #NZPol

Since it’s 🏳️‍⚧️Trans Day of Visibility🏳️‍⚧️, let me take the opportunity to remind everyone: Self ID is law in New Zealand, I am legally female, and I will always be a woman.

This is the real injustice. I miss Georgina

she’s running, so I’m voting for the right kind of Tory again @misswhanau.bsky.social #NZpol www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

No Select Committee scrutiny of record legislation and no coherent plan for any Ministry. We could say Luxon’s coalition govt is taking Aotearoa NZ down a slippery, dangerous path. #nzpol

If you knew, as the NZ Herald does, that once the cancellation costs and infrastructure costs are included, this will actually end up us costing more (for less), why on earth would you frame it with the quote "We're saving the taxpayer billions"?

Sigh ...

RNZ guest (w no dependents) said $1300 wkly income was 'not easy'. "Must be tough for those on Super." NZ Super - $538 p/week (sgl, lives alone) The invisible others: Disability 'Supported Living' - $412 (sgl, 18+, no kids) JobSeeker - $361 (sgl, 25+, no kids) JobSeeker - $315 (sgl, 20-24, no kids)

Just pisses me off so much. I was raised in a privileged super white environment in the South Island. The more I moved from that toxicity, I realised that appreciating other cultures does no harm. Incorporating Te Ao Māori into all aspects of Aotearoa only improves outlooks and experiences...

Still amazed that the govt is just going to throw a bunch of select committee submissions from the public away. 'Let's just not bother with them' is a hell of a response to a record number of submissions. Makes you think about their electoral reform proposals eh. 4 year terms can get fucked

It is simply a democratic outrage that we do not at the absolute minimum get an empirical breakdown of how many submissions there were, and how many in support, opposed, and ambivalent This is the most essential basis for demonstrating public sentiment towards the TPB in the absence of a referendum

This piece from @tressiemcphd.bsky.social starts with a bang and just gets better and better. Gift link.

#NZpol In which Meager says it isn't his responsibility to advocate for an extension as Chair but the Committee... but votes against allowing the Committee to ask for it. Yes, disingenuous AF. But, also no real surprise from someone who started his career as MP with a disingenuous Maiden Speech.

ACT: “we need a referendum on tpb so people can express their views” Also ACT: “we don’t need to process all of the public submissions it’s a waste of time” Again showing their disdain for democracy despite claiming to be protectors of it. #nzpol

Beautiful Aotearoa grown produce. Always buy NZ if you can and if possible direct from grower. Often cheaper, fresher and helps them not the supermarkets.

A good story about an important report from the Helen Clark Foundation #nzpol Do you know what people on benefits actually get? www.rnz.co.nz/news/nationa...

“He said the fact that the JobSeeker basic benefit is $361 a week for single people over 25 without children, compared to $538 a week for people on NZ Super might surprise some people. "If you're old you deserve more money than if you're young and poor? We have a very inequitable welfare system…”

There’s a lot of focus on fasting during Ramadan but if you look up Fitr in Eid-ul-Fitr, which is soon, it is also a month of giving. I’m supporting Palestinians, Outline, Māori Women’s Refuge, and Wellington City Mission. Lotta people doing it tough, help if you can! 🫶🏽

😂

I’ve seen recent research that shows that New Zealanders’ trust in public institutions is on a downward trend. This will not help. I could make some quip about apparently speech not mattering here, but really this was the most submitted-on bill in our history, and deserved extraordinary measures.

So, yeah... I'm supposed to be sympathetic that the Justice Select Committee isn't properly resourced or staffed to do its damn job, so thousands of public submissions are effectively going in the bin? Piss off. This isn't acceptable. #nzpol newsroom.co.nz/2025/03/28/t...

paying attention to nz politics for even just a few years makes the pattern of constant harrassment against brown woman politicians extremely obvious. like kiri allan. marama davidson. golriz ghahraman. tory whanau. more I'm forgetting. now tamatha paul.

"This article is not just an analysis; it is a call to arms. It exposes the government's pattern of rights-neglect, dissects the discriminatory farce surrounding puberty blockers, and serves notice: the human rights community, advocates, and defenders of justice in Aotearoa will fight this." #nzpol

‘What can we do to deflect from the gravity of error, poor judgement, treatment and drugging of an 11yr old girl that police mistook as a 20yr old?? 💡We will attack a wahine Māori MP that is rightly questioning Police actions against the marginalised and oppressed..’ - Ballheads #nzpol

I need this article to go big-so pls REPOST and SHARE. It's a warning to the Minister of Health Hon Simeon Brown: Ban, or meaningfully restrict puberty blockers, and know that you will unleash a legal and community firestorm you cannot possibly control. universe-of-rights.ghost.io/a-line-in-th...

Got to wear my shirt from @pepperraccoon.com today 💛 This may be a little unconventional but what better way to showcase our NZ businesses/artists/designers than with an international delegation? Here I am with the Chairman of Hanoi City People's Council.

I see the PM has a new buzz-word attack strategy to try and deflect from his incompetence - the Greens, apparently, have a de-growth agenda. So let's put it in George Monbiot words - privatisation is simply legalised theft. PPP is legal theft. #nzpol

The loss of so many highly-skilled staff from Archives NZ and the National Library will inevitably have a detrimental impact for researchers. www.rnz.co.nz/news/busines...

Hey @chrishipkins.bsky.social heard of the dawn raids, borstal, the police taking illegal photos of young Māori, abuse in state care… Just because you’ve never had a bad experience with the police, doesn’t mean that our police force is the same for everyone. Wake the fuck up. #nzpol

Remember what matters. Our lives are short, but the future stretches out forever. Everyone says "take care of yourself" but in my view, frankly, that is a juvenile approach to life. Take care of your children, of all children, of the future. Deprioritise your "self." Their future is in our hands.

While you weren't paying attention, the government removed funding from blood testing. If the removal of funding of something will result in your death, that's called genocide/eugenics. #nzpol www.mytests.co.nz/our-tests/
