Wallen and Jelly Roll, for sure. Jessie Murph even moreso. Warren's curse is that his least interesting music is getting popular, in earthier pop folk he has runway for me. And having heard Tate McRae's album and liking 'Sports car'... she needs better management, or to stand up to bad handlers.

If you don't like his songwriting - and I don't - that's a factor of Warner probably telling him 'we need the album FAST to capitalize on a weak summer'. Put the same blame on promo. I also blame incurious audiences who'd rather seek this shit out rather than listen to anything new or challenging!

I stand by him being a VERY easy target... but I agree, the problem might start in his general direction but everyone needs to go deeper. Even if you hate his vocal delivery - and I do - the fact that he sounds like that on record and it doesn't work is at least a production factor.

As an active user of the blocklists myself, do you have one for the Blue MAGA libs that you could share that you trust is accurate? I just remember the early days when there were a few who misused the lists, and I don't want to get fooled again.

For clarity, I'm ranking their runs in terms of entertainment value / narrative, not in terms of the strength of each team. If I'm doing THAT... 1. 2019 Raptors 2. 2024 Celtics 3. 2023 Nuggets 4. 2021 Bucks 5. 2025 Thunder 6. 2022 Warriors 7. 2020 Lakers

...in what UNIVERSE are Raptors at the bottom here, or the Lakers at the top? As much as Cowherd snorts the backside of what he considers 'major markets', this is lazy horse manure.

Correlation doesn't equal causation here and it drives me nuts. I do think the slow return of electronic pop divas the past few years amidst mainstream hip-hop receding into uncertainty mirrors the club boom of the late 2000s, but that's multiple genres playing out over multiple years!

(by extension, this also makes 'Desire, I Want To Turn Into You' by Caroline Polachek a 9/10 as well if my order remains consistent from 2023. This is among the least controversial pop takes I've ever had lol)

And I think I can be confident in saying that his new album is a little better than 'Maps'. Just barely (also 'Maps' is probably also a 9/10 if I'm keeping it real). Both 2022 albums I'd give strong 8/10s. Not better than 'Hiding Places' though, probably still my favourite overall.

billy woods is what makes this the hardest because I have to judge him against his catalog, and I've only come to appreciate his work more in the 2020s... which is a bit at odds with how I rated him in the 2010s. So fuck it. 'History Will Absolve Me' is a 9/10. So is 'Hiding Places'. Long overdue.
