It's hilarious in optics, but i can see the logic behind it.

I also want to add that, remember how Toby said there would never be Plushies of Noelle, Kris and Susie? I believe THIS is the reason why he doesn't want to make Noelle and Kris plushies.
Which means that Toby has a stronger moral backbone than the creators of Mouthwashing.

It really drives the point home how it depicts that you, the player, if you choose to do this, are ruining two characters' life, no you can't argue "Kris did this" you did this, you forced Kris to do it, they are not happy about it and their crash out is more than justified.

It's like, even the undertale genocide route was not seen as this horrible, the existence of Chara even gave the fandom a escape goat to feel like it wasnt their fault, "look Chara is the genocide route reason, not me, im just a player"
But here, there is not that, you can't blame no one else.

Very few video games achieve the feat of absolutely making the player feel like a scumbag for taking a morally reprehensible choice, and this...this is in another fucking level, it's horrifying, and the game makes sure to remind you that YOU, THE PLAYER are a piece of shit for doing this.

I dunno if Toby planned this scene like this from day 0, but maybe it was a reaction to the fandom, Ch2 weird route was horrible on it's on, yet it did not stop people from turning it into a joke and memes with time, was toby lashing out against that? you can't turn THIS into a joke.

Cant say for sure the implications of the original imagery were intended, but if not, i can see what toby wanted to go for (loss of innocence, irreversibility) but also the scene is supposed to be HARROWING, it could have been intentional & then changed his mind.
Still think a toggle could be used.

I will elaborate more later when my self imposed spoiler grace period ends, but we were mistakenly thinking originally that the change was elsewhere which is why i blabbled about lore.
I understand now why the thing that actually got changed was changed.

Another update, okay seems like what i was told was a mistake, the person who told me was corrected themselves and told me it was SOMETHING else, i wasn't ready for spoilers yet, but i have looked into it now.
Okay, yeah, i can see why it was changed.
Still, toggle would be the way to go.

You can tell a lot of ch3 was made like that with the original plan of 2,3,4 being a package in mind, which is why toby warned us it was non traditional, so i didnt mind how different it was.
