If you bring me a mint condition book to sign I will happily do it and chat with you and we'll have a very nice time. If you bring me a jacked up copy with coffee stains, water damage, and dogeared pages I will embrace you like family cause that mean that book was a companion in your life

OTOH if someone can tie the Fairness Doctrine to this topic fair and square, they'll win a non-zero portion of my heart forever

Came to crack about how my ADHD meds are often a key determinant of player spotlight, only to find other commenters living the bit with just amazing commitment

and like, the thing is, if kamala harris had been in online chats with black hebrew israelites and farrakhan fanboys, i don't think the press would have ignored it or treated it like a sideshow

Heck, I sometimes use Robert Moses and NYC to introduce the idea of structural racism. That first step can be easier if they're considering it in terms of pool heaters and bridge heights rather than something they'll get defensive over.

Funny how the secret to prosperity is always "give these guys a pile of money and do whatever they say".

Separate from all of that, being able to quantify the relationship between words as measurable distance in space, something you draw maps and do math with? So cool.

Someone's gonna argue with me on that one but hey, good a way to make friends as any. RankBrain rolled out a few years later, BERT a few years after that. BERT is arguably where the New Normal started but obv it was a hike from there to generating your own embeddings out of household ingredients.

The Hummingbird update was around then IIRC. Biggest shift since we were dotcom v1 punks, it's when what we'd recognize as the pre-LLM SEO standards started to take shape. Markup, metadata, internal linking, all that. Long tail keywords, moving towards natural language queries.
