It’s hard enough to remove just Google from your life. I’m not looking forward to this…

It’s bloody Game of Thrones coming. House of Trump, House of Musk, House of Kennedy, etc…

I don’t know your situation Anthony, but it sucks to feel ignored.

So frustrating. Even if it’s about something that is not relevant to their tier of govt, the good offices still respond, and some even make representations to the appropriate office on your behalf. Hopefully there was a good reason for the lack of response you received.

What “basic work” are you referring you?

I was getting excited about a trip to the Ivanhoe for a moment!

Totally fair! The timeline algorithm, the follow suggestions, the follow lists, etc all make for a much simpler experience, and consequently greater user retention. Feels like 2010-2015 Twitter (which I loved). Shame about the VC backing tho. Destined to repeat our mistakes, we humans be 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pixelfed is getting better too.

Any chance you’ll revisit Mastodon? A good, active community remains there, but onboarding is still a pain.

*polystyrene, not silicone, but you get the point

Oh i don’t doubt that. As @dave.mittners.net mentioned, it bounces around a bit. I’m not sure of the exact circumstances here, it may have at some point directed her to the song, but someone has changed where it’s pointing. Bit.ly links should rarely be trusted.

Don’t fret. It’s a dodgy-af link, FB was right to block it.
comment in response to post
Yeah, you should probably delete this one, it’s absolutely a compromised scam link.

The problem is largely with us though. Where there are options (and there are so few), we still tend to play it safe. Like using concrete where timber, earth or stone could be used. Or choosing silicone disposable coffee cup lids because the plant based alternatives don’t feel right when you sip…

They tend to have limited applicability. Many are too brittle, are difficult to maintain consistency during manufacture (especially injection moulding), have limited life spans, poor manufacturing scaleability, etc etc. It’s a tough business, but the more advancements like this, the better.

Any impact on our buying power from the loss of those salaries is a) extremely minimal, and b) short term thinking.

we’re basically balancing the benefits from a relatively very small payroll going to locals, against significant environmental damages and the opportunity cost of losing the ability to ever gain value from this finite resource again.

I think we’re on the same page. Since there’s low - if any - tax revenue (after grants and subsidies), and the balance of profits probably never converted to AUD,
comment in response to post
An extreme case. We’re nowhere near that, but just thinking about the repercussions of any decision, even if on balance it’s still the right decision.

Oh I’m all for those policies, and keeping a bigger share of the profits in Aus would be a great help towards achieving them (though we could do it now, if we chose to). I guess my thoughts were on Sri Lanka’s experience a few years ago, no US$… now luxury imports are heavily taxed (like >300%)

Honest question here; gas, along with our other fossil fuel exports (which I agree need to stop for the sake of the planet) do actually benefit Australia by their impact on our trade balance, no? Ultimately improving our ability to import nice things cheaper?

BUT THE METAVERSE
comment in response to post
Highly unlikely to be an issue. People do that all the time, even whilst home! Obviously there’s the electricity cost, a few dollars, depending on your plan.

Thank you, and I appreciate you not sharing specifics. Just, damnit… 😔

It really really sucks. I hate to ask, as I’m not subbed to Vulture, but are we talking new info that didn’t make it to Tortoise’s series last year?

Thankfully not a binary choice

Side note on Ledger, amazingly 25 odd years later, 10 Things was in Disney+’s popular top 10 last night 🤷🏻‍♂️ I may have contributed, ha

Same, actually. Don’t know how many times I’ve listened to Five Leaves Left, such a gorgeous album. Found (possibly edited version of) Heath Ledger’s own tribute. youtu.be/3yhzynT3JEI?...
