One of the hardest parts of being disabled is dealing with friends & family who abandon you. People have an internal clock when you get sick. If you’re not “better” by the time it runs out, they leave. It’s their problem, not yours. People are afraid of the permanent nature of disability.

In my 20s I had a hysterectomy & a severe post op complication. It took four trips to the ER before anyone believed me. A second surgery & a month long hospital stay. The bill? $0. It was a horrible experience, but because I’m in Canada it didn’t bankrupt me. Healthcare should be a human right.
