Most trees do 'walk,' they do so over incredibly long timespans and generally not in a continuous direction, which is part of why it's hard to tell. The most famous example of a 'walking tree' comes from not a tree, but a palm, the Socratea exorrhiza, literally "walking palm."

So, because I'm not religious or spiritualistic, I get blocked? How very courageous of you.

@zython.bsky.social Absurdism perhaps? Or are you telling people to kill themselves?

Do not conflate nihilism with cynicism; they are very different, and those of us who believe in nothing in particular would appreciate it if we were not attacked for that fact because it happens to make some people uncomfortable.

There needs to be further distinction between information 'contained in' and information 'created by' life, as information as a concept is emergent from a biological process. Also, 'contained in' is a bit tricky as it could be interpreted in many ways that I do not think suit your point.

Why assume that elements of one of these classifications (as Hank defines them) cannot overlap with those of the others? If we think of these parts as ternary and each as a set, then they likely contain overlapping elements as their definitions are referential to one another and not exclusionary.

1:3 by weight; aluminum powder: iron (III) oxide--- iron (II) oxide works as well, though not as potent --- optionally, add a bit of magnesium and/or sulfur to your liking and voilà, thermite; should you need to do any 'welding' in the coming weeks.

You said, "which Square Enix game," not which game produced or developed by Square Enix, and Call of Duty 4 was distributed by Square Enix in Japan, therefore making it a 'Square Enix game'.
comment in response to

Ah ha, you didn't say it had to be a game produced by Square Enix, which means I can say Call of Duty 4.

Same with Tom Scott, I'm actively fiending for another video from him, but I respect him taking a long break, and if anyone deserves one, it's him.

Are you not sure that people think that isn't solvable, or are you not sure that BPAs are a fixable problem? Either way, the first step is to educate people about the subject and advise them on how to avoid exposing themselves (and their children if they have them ) to endocrine disruptors like BPA.

I'm sorry, Hank, I disagree with you on this one. The simple admittance that you are not "currently worrying about it" is indicative that you do believe this could potentially become a significant issue; the common discourse around microplastics isn't relevant; what is, is the opinion of experts.

One of humanity's greatest and most dangerous qualities is that we can make advancements faster than we can adapt to those very same advancements.

We cannot say that aspects of both ideologies cannot coexist within the same system because that is markedly untrue -- we see aspects of socialism in almost all capitalistic countries for a good reason.
comment in response to
post
In non-idyllic realities such as our own, neither of the economic systems proposed by traditional socialism or capitalism are sustainable -- if we think of these systems as being diametrically opposed then we ignore the modern context and ideology that these concepts have come to represent.

Socialism and Capitalism are not mutually esclusive and it is harmful to think of them as such.

Language is subjective, so any person's definition of leftist may differ from my own. Being anti-capitalist is not inherent in all or even most leftists; rather, many leftists believe that capitalism should be heavily regulated so that it benefits society rather than select individuals.

That's a relief, but it's an embarrassment for this country that there was ever even a chance of such an important program losing funding. May many other cut programs have similar luck in finding funding.

@frogboy.bsky.social Don't feel bad, it is not your fault that you lost this argument- you just need more practice using actual facts and logic to support what you're saying instead of just makings things up. I encourage you to keep trying, and come back when you have a better grasp of things.

@frogboy.bsky.social They are kind of not the words I said- not in that order, not the same words. They are your interpretation of my words, which I don't think you understood in context. If you want to quote what someone is saying we do have the power of ctrl c.

@frogboy.bsky.social I appreciate the assumption of the exact parameters of the 'point' that I was making. Every scientific article on the bioaccumulation of nano and microplastics finds that the mass does lower neural conduction, and directly contribute to neurodegenerative conditions.
comment in response to
post
Yeah, but we should probably do something about the bio-accumulation of plastics before it does become a legitimate, tangible issue--- pushing things down the road never ends well.
comment in response to

@frogboy.bsky.social Saying that any foreign substance being found at even trace levels withing the human brain is not an issue is absurd, I challenge you to find respected physician who will tell you with a straight face that having plastic inside your brain is good thing.

@frogboy.bsky.social I literally posted that article as a counterpoint to an stance on a issue I was taking, which I did elaborate if you had actually read my comment. I was pointing out that the data I had initially based my conclusion on was potentially not fully accurate.

I must also admit, the evidence may not be as robust as this particular article claims.
