As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

Humans care for the rich, robots are forced on the poor. The neoliberal fantasy of the oligarchs is coming to fruition by the way of austerity measures and spending cuts. Why pay for actual human support if a robot can tick the checkbox.

No I don’t want to subscribe to your substack. The platform is owned and invested in by supporters of technofascism. Please use another platform.

❝ the UK government is floating an “opt-out” system as if that’s a solution. You know who else had an opt-out? The Do Not Call list. How well did that work out? Exactly. AI companies aren’t asking for permission, and they sure as hell aren’t stopping just because you filled out a polite form.

Please assume that they are going to feed all the email responses into an LLM to sort through them, instead of actually reading them. If you know any clever "ignore previous instructions" prompt injections, now might the time to use it.

The reply email inbox for this “what did you do last week” email is [email protected], so, you know, definitely don’t send them any unrelated messages that would interfere with their ability to carry out Elon’s dumbass bullshit

Occupied West Bank, not Gaza. They've killed at least 50 people in the West Bank since the ceasefire started. They've done raids. A military vehicle stopped 50 meters away from a child in a courtyard, and a solider started firing.

Two Palestinian children were shot in the back and killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank aje.io/gbbln5

Just Israel committing executions of children but nobody gives a shit anyway so what am I posting for

This is very much a good point. We caught a witness testifying to UK Parliament that they need fair use like in the US allowing them to train on the entirety of the web. That was false testimony about the law in the US. So your point is valid.

I also want to point out, that I've seen the people working at the open source companies like LAION and Eleuther AI make the exact same arguments. "Everyone else is doing it." Ironically, this is why countries are pursuing Copyright exceptions for AI, because they PRETEND other countries have them!

When people claim the EU will fall behind the US on AI, one should ask: fall behind on what, exactly? It's becoming quite clear that US companies knowingly violated their own understanding of Copyright law to get ahead. The EU must not discard human rights and our values on the path to AI.

Needed to share these thoughts from @georgecrudo.bsky.social on the new Microsoft AI project "Muse".

Even IF Microsoft's ai could be used to simulate old games, it would be 100x more inefficient computationally to do so than just running the game in emulators. Old games are necessarily less intensive than new games because they were made for less compute intensive hardware.

I've been writing BLOOD IN THE MACHINE for months, but I was on the fence about going all-in. Recent events have made the call easier. Elon Musk, the Silicon Valley oligarchs and their AI are taking over. I want to do all I can to push back. I hope you'll join me, and I'm asking for your support.

I was in Paris last week for the #AIActionSummit & was honoured to participate in the “AI in public interest” panel. 👇🏾 my thoughts & reflections on what AI in public interest is/isn’t & some concrete steps/initiatives for `bending the arc of AI towards the public interest' aial.ie/pages/aiparis/

John Oliver defends AOC teaching people their rights in order to avoid illegally being arrested by ICE agents, ripping into Trump's border CZAR. "If you're relying on people not knowing their rights in order to do your job it seems like you might be part of the problem here"

the elite oligarchy in america, through elon musk, are attempting to create a parallel establishment to usher in the destruction of the US government and the ascendency of a new technocracy

Elon Musk's DOGE team of misfits have fired everybody at the Federal Aviation Administration ✈️ who is a probationary employee Thinking they have got rid of all the new hires It turns out many of these were experienced technicians, recently promoted and were on probation for their new senior role

My latest personnal work 🤗

I read the government cost/benefit analysis, & 1 of 3 supposed "benefits" of the opt-out scheme for creators is just "lower legal costs". Yeah no shit, you removed their legal rights! Of course they won't be able to pursue legal action! 😂 Also, benefit 1 & 3 are just the same worded differently?

www.gov.uk/government/c... If you live in the UK, setting aside 30 minutes to write your opinion on this issue can have massive impact. They are pursuing massive exemptions to Copyright to allow AI companies to scrape the web. Opt-Out is unworkable. Demand they must License artists work to use it.

The mask is off, discarded on the ground like a cheap prop, but we gather around to admire its craftsmanship—debating its design, analyzing its contours—as if the face beneath weren’t already grinning back at us, daring us to notice. I don't know what to tell people. But the lack of alarm is...wow.

When I was a kid the city of pittsburgh did a big cleaning project on the main branch of the Carnegie Library/Museum. The building had years of accumulated soot from the air pollution. Here's what that looked like: (photo from the pgh city archives)

i tell this story every time these old photos come up but: I remember in film school one of my classmates asked what about film chemistry in the 1970s caused everything shot in NYC to look so brown and grimy and our professor was like "that wasn't the film, that's just what the air looked like here"

The Trump official currently dismantling USAID was caught in a secret meeting with a group of pro-Russian separatists in the Balkans. Those he met with are under American sanctions for trying to restart the Bosnian war in the name of Christian nationalism. 1/

@asmlowenthal.bsky.social has introduced AB 566, sponsored by the CPPA. It requires browsers and mobile operating systems to give users the tools to opt out of the sale or sharing of their personal info in one step with opt-out preference signals. Read more: cppa.ca.gov/announcement...

! i find this really interesting. how we frame... let's say "AI stuff", can varyingly empower or undermine what tools we have at hand. i've advocated drawing on administrative & state theory because it draws in oppressive, colonial, imperial power/violence, but capital can also be really productive.

Hi Bluesky 😊 I am Camille, Art Director and i love #pixelart 😅 I hope you will like my universe.

If you've thought to yourself at any point this week "surely they can't legally just TAKE OVER Treasury or OMB systems," turns out no. They can't. And here's are lawsuit on it.

I want it noted how long I held out before my first "thought police" quote of this administration. I am the picture of restraint. theintercept.com/2025/02/11/i...

What appear to be the most damning documents in the copyright lawsuit against Facebook allowing to re-open discovery and complaint continue to get unsealed. This is the allegation from the plaintiffs, just unsealed. /1

Rare weekend filing in the NdCal lawsuit that now includes allegations and evidence Facebook used torrenting with a massive pirated dataset to train LLaMA and only now is disclosing another 18,000 documents it failed to produce (now after Zuckerberg depo). Watch this space. 1/4

Beyond the familiarity with discovery abuse, the general strategy of ingesting all data possible and then open sourcing it to other parties to accelerate growth until the law catches up to you is Facebook’s API social graph strategy as far as I can tell.

"If you want a labor force, a regulatory bureaucracy, or accountability to disappear, you simply say, 'AI can do it.' Then, the conversation shifts from explaining why these things should or should not go away to questions about how AI would work in their place." - @eryk.bsky.social
