Given that we’re a nation of nature lovers, whose conservation charities are among the world's biggest membership organisations, Keir Starmer’s repeated attacks on voters who want to protect the living planet, calling us “time-wasting nimbys”, “blockers” and “zealots”, is frankly idiotic.

Celypha lacunana was NFY in the trap this morning as was this female Common Swift. Also the reds were out and about - Cinnabar and Flame Carpet

Spent a bit of time staring at things in the "meadow" were I haven't mowed the lawn much in the last 2-3 years. Plenty of Ox-eye daisy in there, and this evening found my first confirmed Bucculatrix nigricomela perched on the end of a leaf of one. Also 4 Cochylimorpha straminea. 1/2...

@vc40orthops.bsky.social and I are pleased to announce the publication today of the “Micro ladybirds of Britain and Ireland”, in collaboration with the FSC: www.field-studies-council.org/shop/publica...

Another hot sunny day with a gentle breeze saw AND, VES, CUL and FOR clearwing lures deployed again. Slightly surprisingly, late morning I found my first Red-belted Clearwing of the year in the AND pot - a whopping 34 days earlier than my previous earliest...

Last night added 3 carpet species to the year list here in VC29 - Common Marbled, Red Twin-spot (underside of wings checked) and Green....

Very moody skies at dawn this boring (taken at about 4.40am) - moths far outnumbered by flying ants which were everywhere around and in the trap - surprised Alfred Hitchcock didn't think of it as a sequel to birds....

5/5 this morning in the trap - 2 NFY - Common White Wave and my second ever Musotima nitidalis (The first sometime last yearflew from the eggbox, landed long enough for me to see what it was on a nearby plant and then flew again before net, pot or camera could get to it!)

Flash of red in the garden earlier - Ruby Tiger

Seen several flying around the lure over the last couple of weeks at various times, but this is the first one I've managed to net with broken ankle to contend with... The (Small) Emporer Moth, Saturnia pavonia

Well, it's a bit late now for this one (for anyone missed the original, Sky News managed to mistake SAS for... well, the SAS rather than a Scandinavian airline while Heathrow was shut), but.... here it is anyway!

This is what a worldwide Tesla boycott looks like. Reports just in show that Tesla sales in San Diego have dropped by 35% this month. We likely won’t have a full picture of U.S. sales for another week.

Put the FUN lure out again yesterday. Hadnt washed the trap since previous time - 1 Pammene giganteana into the trap while I was still thawing the bung in it's vial in my office (11.20 am) 3 more in until 13:10, no more until took it down again at 16:20

We just wanted to take a moment to thank all our new supporters! Tomorrow, there will be more of us!

Very cold overnight with a hard frost here in South Cambs, but rewarded with an Early Grey (Xylocampa areola) - NFY
