I would describe this article as "lengthy." Moving day still exists in Quebec and it's fucking awful, making a virtue out of people not being able to sustain stable community life is perverse, and I feel you should be able to make the point "NIMBY bullshit is bad" more succinctly.

I think it's a little late for the latter. It's an open question whether his administration will even comply with a court ruling it doesn't like, and if course they have the Supreme Court in their pocket. I would go with fear, because whatever you imagine, the reality is likely to be worse this time

Is it too much to ask that they eat each other?

I'm normally on your side, but the show must go on, nothing's more LA than that, and the attention that the Oscars will bring to LA's plight will do infinitely more good than performative grieving. No one is saying the Oscars are actively getting in the way of recovery, so...

Great to see outlets committing to Bluesky and taking advantage of what the platform has to offer. I've deleted my Twitter account and I'm never going back. This is the new digital town square.

Let me fix your headline for you. "The best way to prevent a recurrence of the terror in New Orleans is to play whack-a-mole halfway around the world from where the attacker was actually from." It's bound to work eventually! 🙄

Good luck with your next steps and congratulations on the little one 🙂

This must be that accordion house up St. Peter's Road before you get to Morell by that house that used to be burgundy before they repainted it in 1985. They say you could hear it over the noise of the storm all the way to Mount Stewart during Fiona.

Don't get too smug. First of all, the idea that Floridians would turn up their noses at electing literal Florida Man Governor is absurd, and he seems like exactly the kind of person the American people would embrace for President, provided he avoids showing an ounce of shame.

I will never stop performing my yearly twin plant and animal sacrifices to Santa Claus, dread God of Winter, to appease his wrath. Next big snowstorm, you can blame a nonbeliever. Children must be taught to fear Santa!

I think it depends on your air circulation and insulation. The one my parents have works very well for them, and we've also saved a ton of money, but we've had the accept the bedrooms are always going to be cold in winter. Cold air sinks so summer is probably easier for it.

I sort of get why Smith would make this choice - the alternative is to let Trump squash the case himself on his own terms. Now the public record will forever show that the government believed in the merits of its case. Trump has been denied the opportunity to set an even worse precedent.

Maybe "good" is a little optimistic here? I mean, the Bible says, by their fruits you shall know them.

Journalists need to get with the program and use alternative platforms. Write pieces on the heinousness of Twitter, sorry, "X," all you want, but if you as the core users of Twitter keep using it, we'll all be stuck with a sabotaged and broken vital public accommodation.

But at the same time, it illustrates how fundamentally broken our monetary system is. Any sociopathic narcissist who was in the right place at the right time and who has the charisma to mesmerize venture capitalists can be flooded with cash and given the ability to break an important public good

I can't do that either. If you don't write down your comments when you have them a bunch of things are going to slip through the cracks, even though it's annoying to write a whole comment and discover one page later it was addressed. At minimum, maybe the doc could be a bit better organised.
