“It would be extremely easy to read this and think that Gabbard said Trump and Putin are ‘very good friends’! Lots of people drew this conclusion and shared the news. Apparently, even the Associated Press briefly did so.”

The Allen County Public Library is a major institution that has, among other things, a big Lincoln collection, and such good community outreach that most residents have a library card. It claims 1.8 million visitors per year, who borrow 4.2m items.

Differ We Must shows how Lincoln tried to build political coalitions.
Notably, most of the time, Lincoln didn’t change anybody’s mind. He tried to collaborate, and when that didn’t work he still tried to make use of the situation.

“Democrats would like to manage the issue by legalizing immigrants they view as mostly productive members of society. Republicans take a radically different view. And it’s clear the 2024 election results, that some voters just don’t follow the nuances of Democratic thinking.”

In the speech, Lincoln talked of proslavery forces who threatened to break up the country if they didn't get their way-- and who said it would be the antislavery forces' fault if they did so. "That is cool," Lincoln said.
