I absolutely love this perspective. Every time I read that passage, I feel at ease.

I love this from Seneca, and truthfully it is what I struggle with most. It is so easy to forget that we are here now and pay too much attention to that which we cannot predict.

And it is a lifelong pursuit. There is no arriving; by design, the goalposts move with every improvement we make. For this reason, we chase progress, not perfection. This is freeing.

This image is beautiful; I see it as a Stoic's daimon looking after its human host.

... ‘The Way, Vol. I - Practical Poetry Inspired by Stoicism’ and meet other local booksellers and authors.
The Spring Break Book Fair, hosted by Bundok Books, is a nod to the Scholastic Fairs we enjoyed as kids and aims to share the joy of reading with the community. (2/3)

This is an admirable goal. Doing the right thing for its own sake is its own reward.

Something similar was said by one of my professors in college when discussing whether we ought to dedicate energy to worrying about something.
“Is this a difference that makes a difference?”

This is an incredibly healthy take, and I wish more people saw the philosophy as accurately as you do.

It’s tragic what has happened with the misconceptions rampant within certain subsets of people mistaking toxic masculinity for Stoicism. 😔

As Socrates says, “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

All true. Sadly the word Stoicism has been bastardized by ignorant alpha males and its true meaning has been severely misconstrued over the years.

If only everyone knew they possess this ability. So much heartache would be instantly discarded, and so much more prevented as a result.

I was introduced to Stoicism by reading Holiday, years ago. Glad I found Stoicism, but since then I’ve moved on and firmly landed in the traditional Stoicism camp and listen to Stoicism on Fire on repeat (a bit each day on my morning walk).
Tate is evil and should be categorically ignored.

All we truly control are our thoughts and actions. The rest? Given to us by the cosmos, in all its perfection despite our errant interpretation clouded by shallow and minuscule desires.
I absolutely love this poem.

My take: yourself. If there are other things besides yourself which are keeping you from doing something, then as it is not up to you, it should not trouble you. Choices and thoughts are all that we have, but circumstances and situations aren’t fully up to us.

My favorite is when he quotes Epictetus: “you are a soul carrying around a tiny corpse, as Epictetus used to say.” 😌

Thank you! ☺️ The book has 31 poems, and each poem is made out of 7 haikus which discuss a single topic. The 7 haikus read as 1 longform poem. Here’s a sample:

I would definitely be interested in alternative ways of getting my ebook in front of people. On Kindle Unlimited right now but I’m trying to move away from Amazon as much as I can.
