Although Alito frames the remedy here as "notice and opt-out," the reality is that school districts cannot manage such a sweeping opt-out system. They are far more likely to simply pull books with LGBTQ characters off classroom shelves altogether rather than face a ruinous, high-profile lawsuit.

There's a whole bunch of constitutional rules for how you have to conduct criminal cases If the government is able to designate any kind of case as "civil" at will, these rules are meaningless There simply MUST be some constitutional criteria for what must fall within these rules!

I actually do miss the height of the 2019-2020 cycle of discussion within the Democratic Party: optimism around a Green New Deal, intense policy discussions about how to universalize healthcare, trillion-dollar tax programs, college tuition for all, childcare for all, etc.

It’s extremely abundantly clear to me that RFK Jr believes all the untruths he believes because he needs to have a Great Destiny to redeem the wound of his father’s Great Destiny cut short, and he just doesn’t have the juice, so he has to find an esoteric route to a comparable prominence.
