I think how the “socialism” label has lost its toxicity among an increasingly large swath electorate shows that Omni-Labels just aren’t sustainable in the long term.

A nice reminder of the immense power contained in saying “no.” When people refuse to comply, it raises the costs ($$$, political, social, etc) of enforcing authoritarianism. They very well might try anyway, but every person that says “no” is another point of friction. www.npr.org/2025/06/28/n...

Recently learned that my great-great grandfather Tim O'Connor was, per his 1930s obituary, the "first white male" born in Dakota County, Nebraska in the 1850s, which feels like a really on the nose illustration of the whole "how the Irish became white" thing

the pathetic thing about these statements from dems who met with zohran is that they want attention for simply meeting with the biggest name in politics at the moment but don’t actually have anything to say

Rereading "Neither Settler nor Native", published in 2020, and Mahmood Mamdani's dedication is: "For Zohran, You teach us how to engage the world in difficult times, may you inspire many and blaze a trail!"

In Louisiana, local court officials known as Justices of the peace can line their pockets by granting evictions—and keeping the resulting fees as part of their salaries. A new lawsuit argues that’s unconstitutional. boltsmag.org/ilouisi...

Zohran Mamdani is saying things like “poverty is a policy choice and politicians have a duty to their constituents to make their lives affordable” and it is making a lot of politicians very very scared that they may actually have to start doing some actual service in their public service jobs.

enabling this savagery abroad has enabled and emboldened the savagery at home. the message being sent most consistently today is that there are no limits to what you can get away with

It’s somehow still more controversial to be against this than to be for it

From recent rulings, we’re getting a sense that courts see training a model as transformative — so long as they pay for the books. That helped give them AI players wins this week, but sets up a series of long term challenges. The rest depends on authors and their lawyers. Details in my latest ⬇️

1. Curtis Sliwa, the GOP nominee for NYC Mayor, is refusing to get out of the race, something that anti-Mamdani folks have been pushing in the last 48 hours. Sliwa tells Politico, “I’m not getting out of this race unless they figure out a way to put me in a pine box and bury me six feet under.”

These 37 House Dems agree with Republicans that an adult international student sitting in a parked car with a can of beer should be deported. I'm not being sarcastic. That is what the bill they voted for would do. Read more: jonathancohn.medium.com/i-know-why-h...

I hate all this talk about how Jews in NYC are "scared" by Mamdani and I hate the implication that I should be too. Why should I be more scared of the progressive Palestinian supporter than I am of the literal white supremacists in the White House? Why am I not being told to fear Stephen Miller?

Yeah I think it is very likely they try this

Kennedy cast the deciding votes in Citizens United, Shelby County, and Bush v. Gore, then handed his SCOTUS seat to Trump and Kavanaugh

This is a shockingly racist call by a House Republican for Zohran Mamdani to be denaturalized and deported. But instead of being viewed as unserious, it's now being promoted and circulated by LibsOfTikTok, Benny Johnson and MAGA regulars. Democrats need to understand that Republicans are serious.

my dudes there's no such thing as "too late" to regulate AI, that's a fake idea. AI models aren't untouchable data gods, they're algorithms hosted in cloud storage. Saying we can't regulate AI is like saying we can't deplatform Child P*rn bc "it's already out there". Like, 1s and 0s can be deleted
