We're still alive though and gradually moving forward, especially with Next Wave!
Actually, Next Wave will probably be the only thing we're talking about until August, so apologies in advance ๐
Just thought we'd share an update in case anyone gets curious

That said, I would recommend following Story Nerd Studios here on Bluesky as well as on YouTube, just to keep up with everything, as well as YouTube being where the event is going to be held. Also, the Discord server is required to join as a guest in the afterparty that will be live on YouTube!

Wow you can really sense their expertise at the end of the video, where there's no more footage, because it's over, because it's garbage, because I don't want to see it anymore.
Truly a genius beyond our time ๐

Yeah I realized I donโt really want to manage that for a month anyways ๐ญ
As for tomorrow, youโll have to wait and see ๐ฟ๐๐ฟ

Thinking about running it in September? Blanking on what criteria games should be judged on outside of prompt inclusion, so if you have any ideas, let me know!

Ooo thatโs a good point. Iโm most likely gonna go with Godot whenever I do start a multiplayer project, so Iโm assuming its similar to Unity in that regard
comment in response to

I see. Itโs what I was guessing, but as someone who has never even dabbled in any kind of multiplayer, had to be sure.
Thank you for your knowledge ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฟ๐๐ฟ

I wonder why more games donโt invest in local multiplayer if its on the easier side.
Iโm speaking moreso to online multiplayer games though, and I see what you mean about decisions that donโt translate well. Any tips to curb that?

Without a doubt, im just curious if the transition from solely single-player to a multiplayer game is really bad or about the same it would be for just making a multiplayer game at the start

Off top of my head, team size of over 20 is a bit much for indie, same with budgets over maybe 50k? Tbf I don't know too much about average budgets though, so I might be talking crazy ๐
AA to AAA, more than 100 people, and budgets beyond 200k?
comment in response to

For me, team size and budget usually determine if I consider a team indie, AA, or AAA.

Ngl part of me wanted to see them collide with the cliffside just to see what happens ๐

Something I've personally dealt with is pressure to not make a fully or mostly black cast, which I usually ignore, but that pressure is still there. Curious if other people have felt this as well and what they do about it

I wouldnโt be surprised. Using AI means you didnโt want to put in the effort, and if youโd slack there, whatโs stopping you from slacking elsewhere?

Been seeing AI thumbnails way more on YouTube, and it's the quickest way to get me, and I'd assume a lot of others, to ignore your video and look for someone who actually spent time on their thumbnails.
The "easy" way ain't always the right way.

Which really sucks because I do love Gamemaker Studio 2. I mesh with the workflow, I like GML, the in-engine sprite editor is so convenient, and overall it's such a good tool for those making 2D pixel art games.
But it is what it is I guess. Either die a hero or live to become the villain T-T

I'm also probably gonna learn Unreal Engine soon after, mostly so I can get a job in the industry.
I still want to use Gamemaker Studio 2, but it'll be really hard to rep the engine if they do end up adding AI into the game development process.
