Hey #OttBike #BikeSky - a cyclist was hit by a white van this morning on Beechwood at Acacia around 8:50am. I heard from a witness that the cyclist looked “ok”, but wondering if anyone caught any news coverage of this. Hope they’re getting the support and care they need. @bikeottawa.bsky.social

Unfortunate that it required an accident, but absolutely amazing to see an extremely necessary piece of infrastructure being built sooner rather than later! These changes save lives and make our communities a better place to live, great work Councillor Troster!

The City's TMP phase 5 released today is... extremely disappointing. It pushes the same status quo, if anything it walks back many of the very necessary transit priority projects we needed. We're expecting less than a 2% drop in personal vehicle use in our modal share. In 20 years. Embarrassing

The City has released the next draft of the Transportation Master Plan, a blueprint to the future development of how how we move people and goods around our city. See the full document and surveys at engage.ottawa.ca/transportati...

Lots of talk yesterday at council about parking minimums in the new zoning by-law review. Really think this point from Councillor @arieltroster.com hits the nail on the head. Let the market decide how much parking is needed, we don't need govt. red tape for this. www.youtube.com/live/6QzInQh...

It always frustrates me how much of the conversation about zoning for housing always turns into a discussion about parking. We are in the midst of a housing crisis and a climate emergency. There is no parking crisis.

Some of our members have been working on a visualization of property tax income for the city, we'll be releasing more information in the future on this, but it really does do a great job of showing what changes we can make to get our city finances back on track! #ottawa

What a great day at the @envirocentre.bsky.social Connecting the Dots on Transit forum today. Was so great to hear from transit users, OC Transpo staff, urban planners, environmentalists and other passionate advocates.

That next smallest thing to do to address your community's struggles? Do it now. That’s the third step of the public investment process for a strong town. The Strong Towns approach relies on incremental investments — little bets — instead of large projects that take months or years to complete.

It was a pleasure to host a table at the @envirocentre.bsky.social annual symposium, to discuss our ideas for 24/7 bus lanes along Bank Street. The input from participants was amazing to see, and glad to hear the idea has so much support!

I joined the @ottawacity.ottawa.ca property taxes to spatial data to create interactive "Revenue by Hectare" maps - a powerful way to understand how land use supports our city. github.com/bickertonpa/... Inspired by @strongtowns.org @strongtownsottawa.bsky.social and @urban3.bsky.social.

Never forget, when you’re being asked to prove that safe bike-lanes or pedestrian crossings across unsafe conditions are ‘needed,’ it's hard to justify a bridge by the number of people swimming across a raging river.

Why is there ANY debate? 🤦‍♀️ 20mph in Wales meant about 100 fewer people killed or seriously injured in a year. “There is, perhaps, a lesson here for politicians: sometimes it can be best to ignore the noisiest voices, and take the evidence-based course.” www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

Signs are good that the ANCHOR program offering an alternative to police response to mental health calls is delivering benefits. The Citizen has a look at it this morning, and I've posted the City's memo to Council to which the article refers here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/iw5fe....

Great turnout at this provincial election debate hosted by @otttransitriders.bsky.social. Ottawans want and need decent transit: reliable, frequent, and affordable! #OttTransit

Cool data here, showing that, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, Ottawa is rubbish. Ottawa: 29km of high comfort bike infra (2,6km/100k pop). Gatineau: 22km (7,6km/100k) Montréal: 168km (7,9km/100k) Vancouver: 246km (36km/100k) etc. 1/2

People make rational choices based on money and time. If people do not find off-peak hours reliable or convenient, they won’t use it. So demand is low because frequency is too low. Other cities have fixed low-ridership by making public transit better. www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/artic...

We managed to get some data from the survey of the Bank Street Transportation Study. It's very clear that most responders want less space for parking, and more space for better transit!

Listening to CBC and news about the challenges of parking in the market; we all know what the answer is: more off street parking, which is easier to regulate and pay for; clear delivery zones and hours; make a #BetterByWard; 1/ @stephanieplante.bsky.social bit.ly/3ScHh3G

I recently had the opportunity to talk with Radio Canada about the newest, denser, plans for Tunney's Pasture and my support for that direction. Read the article here: ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/213...

We're done waiting — for OC Transpo, City Hall, or anyone else to fix public transit. That's up to all of us, the people who use transit every day, the ones who know best what makes it work. So let's share our transit experiences, identify problems, and organize for solutions. Together!

Day 3 with city staff and the Bloomberg team, working on an action plan to make downtown clean, green, safe and fun. Working with visionary city-builders is an absolute dream. Change is coming to Centretown, and I can’t wait. (Also: classic Troster hand-talking moment.)

With last nights AVTC talk it's amazing how such old & outdated ideas cling to life in #Ottawa. I designed an alternative: It's a green busway through the Kilborn allotment. A design like this is IMO the only way to make a corridor through there that moves people while respecting the env.

Got to attend a presentation today about a Toronto-Chicago passenger rail connection through Detroit/Windsor! Amtrak has been able to negotiate using the CPKC Detroit River Rail Tunnel once a day without affecting freight operations. (1/2)
