And you know they'll use it toward an "we were injured in the line of duty so we need more funding" argument the next time there's a budget to be negotiated.

What's the tank version of clapping coconut shells together to make horse hoof noises?

I didn't realize how anxious and pre-sad I was at the possibility that people wouldn't turn out the way they did. Today is equal parts exhausting and restorative for me.

It is delightfully awful. I haven't seen it in years but should definitely watch it again soon.

Just a heads up: I typed in the handle and either this person has an alt or there's a scammer around because the finst thing that came up was the name followed by a dash. If it's a bad actor could someone let them know?

Why is THIS the thing that is finally, fully hitting me in the feels.
Rhetorical. I know why. It's just...
Thank you for sharing a way to support.

25 years ago I had to go out of network (and pay out of pocket) for support from an MD and a pharmacologist to taper off a high-ish dose of gabapentin because when it did it the way my PCP said, it was ALL kinds of bad. PCP said I was overreacting when I asked for more info and help.

Wherever he is, I hope he's having a great day. May he find cash on the ground and candy in his pocket on a regular basis.

Saw one near Palo Alto that was wrapped to look like (I think) a circuit board, but it just looked like the "toys" you were supposed to origami out of the Happy Meal box when I was a kid in the 80s.

Previous housemate's dog definitely knew. She'd be a little distant and standoffish (normally very cuddly) and then wait until her human was distracted to open the fridge to get herself a snack.

Hell yes! We've had these in the East Bay for a while (not sure if it's the same group) and it makes a huge difference. Glad to see you're getting them in SF as well.

Twice! I wanted to work in theater (on the tech side) and I did for years. I also wanted to work on a ranch and drive a tractor so I did that, too. And now that my life responsibilities look different, I have the opportunity to get back to both of those things that made me happy and I am.

One of my Wilderness First Responder instructors years ago said "CPR isn't magic, but it IS a miracle. The odds are against you but you know the outcome if you don't try, so try."

1. This is fantastic!
2. It's reassuring to see that someone else has a brain that doesn't like foundation piecing. At this stage, mine simply cannot. Which is a shame, because there are so many fantastic patterns. (Some day)

Moose Logic is inscrutable, impressive, and terrifying. It's not for us to know, it's for us to stay the hell away from.

15 or 20 years ago in Montana, some motel I stayed at had a binder in the lobby titled LEAVE THE ANIMALS ALONE. Sections were labeled by species and filled with news articles, obituaries, and photos of vehicular damage. The moose section was half the binder.

Wrapped in one of my quilts and buried directly in the earth in a green cemetery. If that's not feasible, I want to be cremated and have the remains buried in the cemetery where my great grandparents and great-great grandfather (and a bunch of other relatives) are.

He's always fancied himself far more charming to far more people than he really is. I was working in the SF Tenderloin (in harm reduction, public health outreach, etc.) when he was mayor and trying to be governor so we saw him around a LOT and... yeah he's epic career-long fuckwit.

I hear you! This is my eternal dilemma: I want to use what I have and I actually like what I have but sometimes it's not quite what I want or need for a particular project.

Made me even madder when those same church folks came by at the end of the distribution asking for the leftover goodies for themselves or for the fellowship hall. We made sure there weren't any: as soon as we saw them coming we bagged it up and took it to a nearby park where the seniors hung out.

So evil. I worked a food bank's seasonal produce distribution site and another org set up next to us with gleaned day old treats and bread from cafes and grocery stores. More than once someone from the church across the street yelled at us to not distibute, "what they didn't need." Made me furious.

I have a long tradition of taking off work to read on publication dates I've been looking forward to, and of making sure at least one of my local indie bookstores will have the goods waiting for me that morning.

Then you won't mind my telling you that I took the day off work when "How to Write an Autobiographical Novel" came out and read it in a day at my favorite San Francisco reading spots and on the bus between them. That book blew my ever loving mind and I appreciate you for writing it.

This is the difference that people don't understand!
I worked in social service nonprofits for 20+ years and we did a lot, but even in the organizations that are planning and policy focused (rather than direct service) there's only so much you can do no matter how well funded you are.

Ther are multiple and they wax and wane but the older I get the more I notice that even though they vary they're related or have a common theme.
Mostly I like being excited about/super into something, I'm often surprised by what catches my fancy but I'm pretty game for whatever.

... d) going into shelters frequently means surrendering most/all your physical possessions and e) if you're living outdoors with a partner/friend/sibling/buddy etc. there's a good chance you won't be sheltered together.
and the list goes on and on
