Welcome to my personal echo chamber. Hints of wildlife, ecology, environment, climate, community and social justice may appear here from time to time. There might even be the odd photo of Suffolk's beautiful skies.

And going ‘further and faster’ without a plan for nature? That isn’t progress, it’s gambling with our future. A thriving economy relies on a thriving natural world. Real growth means backing net-zero, nature recovery, and long-term sustainability... not pushing them aside.

One of my earliest and fondest wildlife memories (as a child) was the joy of finding a Jay’s blue-striped wing feather in woodland near our house. Consequently always love seeing them flitting between trees at this time of year.

My understanding is that standing deadwood is really important for plenty of invertebrates, which then become a food source for other animals - so excellent at many levels!

Lovely pics, Jane.

Your scenario reminds me of the Trabants coming over from East Germany, after the collapse of the Berlin Wall. They’d be pootling along in the autobahn ‘slow’ lane, belching two-stroke, with other vehicles flashing past 2 or 3 times faster. Truly terrifying to see 🚗🏎️🙀

Great pics Eddie. It’d be great to know where in the country each photo was taken, even if only roughly. It’d give us an idea of whether we’re likely to bump into any of these wonderful birds near us.

Jupiter is incredibly bright at the moment and rises in the east. It’s almost overhead by midnight. Venus is also visible in the early evening, but it’s not as bright and starts off in the west before disappearing below the horizon.

Visible on Bluesky. Looking forward to seeing what results you get from your experiment! I'm trying not to go back to the other place unless I have to.
