Retail workers are once again fighting to protect their stat holidays as the business lobby pressures Toronto councillors to expand holiday shopping rules, threatening workersā€™ guaranteed time off. Story by Nathan Bawaan for the @thestar.com www.thestar.com/business/tor...

Report: CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA! CANADA!

While I think it makes sense to get help from French HSR companies. For the future, we should be building up VIA Rail's planning and operation capabilities for HSR. Most countries with HSR have a nationalized operators or nationalized planning and design capabilities. Lets future proof ourselves.

Silicon Valley be all like "You didn't want to buy our monkey jpgs and conduct meetings with VR headsets, I guess we have no choice but to start WW3"

I think one of the funniest ironyā€™s about the whole ā€œBuild Canadaā€ initiative is that they couldnā€™t even be bothered to pick up the .ca domain for it, opting for the .com. Like come on, couldnā€™t even be bothered to show up with a Canadian domain for a Canadian project?

Canada now, and forever. // Vive Le Canada.

Fighting for a just Canada, which so many of us have been doing for so long, assumes there's a Canada to fight for in the first place. I'm in for a fight against the Trump regime, because we get to decide how we want to live together. www.davidmoscrop.com/p/confession...

Iā€™ve been saying it for years, but the time has never been better. Want to hold down costs to the public? Establish a publicly owned, nonprofit basic good grocery chain or brand. Cut profit out of the equation and improve food access and security while creating jobs.

It is bonkers to me how Trump has openly said, repeatedly, that there is nothing we can do to stop Trump's tariffs, and yet a bunch of right-wing folks are telling us to appease them.

Canada is a country worth fighting for against anyone whoā€™d roll up and sock us in the kisser, goddamn them. I will still stand up for my country and our right to decide for ourselves how we want to live. www.davidmoscrop.com/p/confession...

the tldr is: governments should build housing again www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZpL...

It's simple. Loyal Canadians will always defend our independence, unconditionally. If you're 'Canadian' wearing a MAGA hat & keen to give up our sovereignty you're a traitor. Canada is home. It's worth defending. Every last inch. And we're never, going to surrender. 1812. šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

My message to Zuck

As someone who started getting into politics as a teenager back in 2015, it feels weird to see it all end like this. I had my share of issues with his gov, mostly w/ his lack of progressiveness. He often talked about being progressive but his policies were often just neoliberal status quo (1/4)

My editorial piece in @nationalobserver.com We are not in ordinary times. We are in Trump times. The clock is ticking down on the arrival of the chaos machine in Washington. Canada is staring down a political tsunami but we're too busy to notice." www.nationalobserver.com/2024/12/27/o...

the fact that Toronto is hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup is crazy considering we really haven't upped public transit capacity all that much yet for the number of people we're going to have to support. we should be rapidly expanding and completing our transit projects like yesterday

Canadian metaphors for living next to the US Pierre Trudeau, 1969: ā€œsleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-temperedā€¦one is affected by every twitch and gruntā€ Charles Angus, 2024: ā€œliving in an apartment above a meth labā€

It was Conservatives who foolishly integrated Canada more deeply into the US economy in late 1980s. Now is a good time to better diversify our trade (eg. Europe, Asia) and make our domestic economy more self-sufficient (recall COVID? No domestic vaccine, mask/ventilator shortages, etc.). šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

Here's a new Luigi Mangione document the media wouldn't publish in full:

It would be better to build and *open* transit projects and let that do the talking instead of advertising to us with our own money

Pierre Poilievre rants about the elites and insiders. The guy has never had a job other than politician. He lives in a 19 room mansion with his own chef -- all paid for by the taxpayers. Come with me on a journey to Stornoway where the real political elitist lives. www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6ZH...

Yo I just realized if the election is in March politicians will be forcing their volunteers to door knock for them in February. A Canadian February absolutely brutal

One unfortunate thing about the Canadian political cycle is the Liberal government (which I have my issues with) won't be around to cut the ribbon on most of the transit projects they funded. Meanwhile, the conservatives will be despite being terrible on funding Transit projects.

Mark my words. Pierre Poilievre will pour fuel on the fire of corporate greed. Heā€™ll cut health care and housing. Heā€™ll take from working people to give more to CEOs.
