We are making an explicit effort to bring in morpheme studies into our middle school classrooms. Pre teaching vocab helps when everyone is reading the same text but doesn’t help with independent reading. Maybe this is why I am seeing a decline in reading for pleasure. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

This is year 30, and I want to go at least a couple more. I still love being with the kids. I have to keep focused on the main thing and remember not to worry about what I can’t change.

Last week, we looked at the importance of gratitude, and students wrote letters of gratitude to parents, elementary teachers, or teachers in our middle school. I will send teacher in our district their letters. It was an awesome two days.

I can see these teachers’ positive influences through the kids’ writing. I hope they enjoy receiving the letters after break. I know I enjoyed the one I got. It’s a good reminder of why I do what I do. 2/2
