NEW: The NIH has begun terminating grants for active projects studying gender identity, DEI, environmental justice, climate change, among other topics. At least 16 termination letters have already been sent — and hundreds more are coming, people inside NIH tell me. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

The CDC sent federal disease experts to assist in the response to the intensifying measles outbreak in Texas. At least 159 measles cases have been confirmed, with 22 of the patients been hospitalized. state officials said Tuesday.

There's literaly an mRNA vaccine to treat pancreatic cancer in the works. It's shown promising results in a Phase 1 trial. Most people with pancreatic cancer are dead within 5 years. It's what killed Patrick Swayze.

I spent last week in Taipei with hundreds of human rights organizations, many of which had been impacted by the US aid freeze. While we were there, news came down that even more grants had been canceled, some of which were then reinstated. "Total chaos." @wired.com www.wired.com/story/rights...

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at USAID. This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC. What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

My American friends sigh and tell me “it’s gonna be a long 4 years” and all I can think of is “thinking it’s going to be just 4 years is the wrong mindset when your country descends into competitive authoritarianism”. New stream: youtu.be/dCec7URk2CY?...

In the UN vote today on Russian aggression, Trump's America sided with Russia, North Korea and Belarus in defending Putin's war. The U.S. was not even as independent-minded as Cuba and Iran, both of which abstained. In the world's fight for liberty, I fear the U.S. has just switched sides.

Undergraduate research opportunities are incredibly valuable, both for the students and for the progress of the work. And having undergraduate research experience is a massive help for grad school admission. REU cancellations harm students’ preparedness & career prospects, and slow research progress

With a measles outbreak growing in West Texas, and cases popping up across the country, experts say vaccination is your best protection. And it's not just for kids. Some adults may need a booster.

Top USAID officials are trying to create a false narrative that life-saving aid has continued despite Trump’s blanket halt to foreign aid. Our @nytimes.com reporting shows the exact opposite. USAID even issued an internal email to stop applications for waivers: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/u...

Native Americans have treaty rights to health (unlike ordinary US citizens). These rights are now being eroded even further with the slashing of their health services.

The termination of 850 Indian Health Service physicians, nurses, and dentists will have a grave impact on access to care for millions of Native Americans. Upholding our treaty obligations is not optional.
