I respect someone prepared to risk being put on a mi6 watch list ‘for a bit ‘ .

Not sure it is higher yielding than parent ‘Three years of field trials in China show that the new strain emits 70% less methane than its commercial parent and produces almost twice the amount of grain per hectare compared with the global average, ‘….which is a bit ambiguous.

Can we unpack this. Do you mean as in the slightly disappointing sequel ? also in Return of the Jedi , Luke (mark) very much wins? What's the angle here?

Yes , but I’m biased and think one post it is too many .

Indoor ag is where we have seen the largest yield increase in recent years (tomatoes and strawberries more than doubled ) . Advance greenhouse and poly tunnel tech are super exciting , but highly sophisticated vert farming is still far from moving from high value mico greens to food crops.

I was a vertical farming evangelist after going to vert farm conference in 2014. It felt like it would eclipse all other agtech ( the same arguments around price and innovation in LED light recipes were made) . Ten Years on and they are still producing basil which retails at 40x the cost of rice.

That’s much more pleasant than the dark annual snowman cull I envisaged. I hope it’s that and he hasn’t just whitewashed snowmen’s true role in Christmas.

There are snowmen though, with carrots for noses. Now I’m not accusing Santa of anything , just asking questions .

What do you mean doesn't exist ? like for tax purposes ?

You are ignoring the Product carbon footprint (PVF) of all his presents. Off shoring our carbon to Lapland looks good for NDCs but is not inline with 1.5 degree. #bahhumbug

The spelling of Amphetamines is jarring , is that an accepted spelling ?

And the correct answer is ? I thought it was what job your parents did at conception? basing this on my likely misremembering of @samfriedman.bsky.social's book.

Reversing 10,000 years of selective breeding, while maintaining yields is going be hard. Great for an IPA but not feeding the planet anytime soon.

"....India where the richest one per cent hold more than four times the total wealth of the 953 million people who make up the bottom 70 per cent of the country's population"..really made me rethink India's role in the climate debate.

i have also read , and own your book . Big fan , quoted it in a job interview once (can't remember the details , it was something about why we need international science and I was explaining green revolution)
comment in response to post
Work in international dev , currently in West Africa , previously in East Africa, working on (among other things ) climate resilient food systems .

Hey I work in international dev now but still use my plant science background a lot.
