What has AID ever done for anyone? www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMy8... #AidChat #AidSky

Worth a listen for anyone in or adjacent to global development at this turbulent time. @odi.global odi.org/en/insights/...

Hey man sorry to hear about all your political turmoil. Would it help if I scrolled around on the computer all day and drove myself insane?

every day we see more and more evidence of society descending into utter lawlessness and chaos

The US Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) website is now offline. Since 1985, FEWS NET has provided assessments of the location and severity of food crises. These assessments are used by gov and non-government humanitarian organizations across the world to allocate aid. static.fews.net

Seems to be an exception on food assistance, Egypt and Israel . Everything else is a big (?) . US up to now largest dev donor , impacts could be huge .

100% this. "Journalist" need to stop reporting tweets as news, whoever the author.

Research suggests a massive expansion of mining & the processing of metal ores caused airborne lead pollution to soar during the peak of the Roman empire, leading to an estimated 2-3 point drop in IQ. 🧪🧠 #neuroskyence www.theguardian.com/science/2025...

Carter used the power of his post presidency to nearly eradicate guinea worm. There were 3.5 million cases when the Carter Center’s work began in 1986. He said in 2015 that he wanted to see “guinea worm completely eradicated before I die.” There’ve been 7 cases this year. www.npr.org/sections/goa...

I worked on our locust response in 2019-2021 when in East Africa .This tool could massively reduce cost and environmental impact of current control strategies and more importantly make new strategies viable. www.cam.ac.uk/research/new...

New article: "We estimate that less than 16% of the carbon credits issued to the investigated projects constitute real emission reductions... Carbon crediting mechanisms need to be reformed fundamentally to meaningfully contribute to climate change mitigation." www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Great paper on challenges and opportunities of climate change. Although I remain sceptical of our ability to breed 'under-utilized crops' with increased yield, without breeding out the traits which make them climate resilience (i.e small grains) #plantscience www.frontiersin.org/journals/sci... .

I'm working on a study to assess levels of heavy metals in the environment, near gold processing sites, and today found out people were growing tomatoes 10 metres from a site using mercury. This is the dark side to the current high price of gold. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...

Stolen from the ATNi (Access to Nutrition initiative), figure unsurprisingly shows LMIC's have the least healthy processed food. full report accesstonutrition.org/app/uploads/...

Lots of new people joining Bluesky, and lots of great starter packs floating around, so here’s another idea: if you work at the intersection of food/agriculture, nature, and climate, introduce yourself and what you do below so folks can keep connecting. Who’s here now?

Recommend reading for all those who want a clear eyed view of the global food system without the hype or alarmism. 💙📚 , 🔧🌏 '⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐'
