Surely you must be talking to Mr "thinking the unthinkable" @nktpnd.bsky.social who I believe has quasi trademarked this term

Vielen Dank für diesen Artikel. Sind Ihrer Meinung nach die Berichte, dass Orban eine Polizeieinheit nach BiH geschickt haben soll, um Dodik im Fall einer Verhaftung zu evakuieren glaubwürdig?

Right. I'm also not sure entirely who this bank would lend to ultimately- assuming it's AAA rated, onlending to defence industry could provide cheaper funding to the industry vs recent past, but isn't the issue rather lack of govt long term orders rather than lack of Capex funding?

What do you make of the idea of a rearmament bank floated by some in UK & PL? EUR 10bn paid-in, EUR 90bn callable capital, Governance based on EBRD is (was at least recently) the broad pitch as far as I can gather, but the sums seem low after latest US news

Oh, monetary policy will absolutely be in the crossshairs, it seems so very predictable. Look at the q1 forecasts and equity markets right now, i assume it will start soon

Totally. This demolishing of state capacity will cost the US big time, unfortunately. I think EM experience is very useful these days if you accept that political downwards spirals are not somehow magically limited to some group of faraway countries

Sadly, I fully agree.
Still curious to understand the technicalities I mentioned- I hope we won't have to find out. In normal times these systems running smoothly is what you'd expect without wasting time thinking about it. These days..

If I have it right TreasuryDirect is for retail investors what TAAPS is for institutional investrors- a way to purchase bonds from the US treasury. What I don't know is how Treasury then services these debt obligations and if/how these systems are accessible by Musk et al.
comment in response to

I share the sentiment but is it actually the case? It's a question I have been trying to understand for some time- what part of the US treasury's systems can Musk's -shall we say- envoys access and what part of these systems is responsible for bond repayments / debt service
comment in response to

Exactly. If CRAs take the concepts "political risk" or "institutional stability" seriously, the implications are clear as day when you look at the news coming out of the US these days. Investors ignore these risks at their peril

Which part of the US treasury's systems does DOGE have access to? And which one handles what part of US debt service? TreasuryDirect, TAAPS, FedInvest ... asking for a friend

Thank you for the information. Indeed the BFS site links to Treasury Direct whose tasks sound very much like "we handle the bond stuff" www.treasurydirect.gov/about/ yeah this is bad. Don't think market has realized ramifications of random Musk bros controlling heart of treasury refinancing ops

Senator, did Musk / DOGE get access to the Treasury system responsible for US government debt service? News reports seem to focus on their access to systems carrying out US domestic transfers / foreign aid payments. Is it the same system?

Love this chart and the level of detail down to individual country/MDB level on the creditor side, thanks for sharing! Does the dataset also show stocks for given year by country in this level of detail? (Sorry for the lazy question haven't had time to go through dataset myself yet)

I'd also like to watch the recording if available :) absolutely fantastic work in reconstructing Tenochtitlan! would love to see more historic cities visualized like this. PS there's a nice new indie game called Tlatoani where you can build Aztec cities - sparked my interest so I found your work ;)
