I'm an enterprise IT guy, so of course I'm bullish on the aquisition of @hashicorp.com by IBM. www.linkedin.com/pulse/ibms-a...

The worst-case scenario in business? It all burns to the ground, you lose everything, and have to start from scratch. If that reality doesn’t make you flinch—if it even excites you—you’re built for entrepreneurship. Risk isn’t a flaw; it’s the price of entry.

If all I have to do is sign my name to something to ensure your future, give me a pen - My dad.

Just recorded Infrastructure Matters, Ep. 73 with Camberley Bates + @thectoadvisor.com. We debated if AI is a new layer in the infrastructure stack, plus the latest on GPT 4.5, Alexa+, Claude 3.7, NetApp, Pure Storage, Vast, Google Gemini 2.0 for code, and IBM's HashiCorp. Link soon!

I try to be as independent as possible, but I have an agenda, and the point of my platform is to push it. It's for you to judge if that agenda is worthy of your attention and engagement. I never not appreciate it.

💡 If you work for a publicly traded company and always ignore recruiter calls, you're hurting your career resilience. Trust me—your employer is constantly strategizing how to move you off the payroll. Stay proactive. Take the call. Keep your options open. 🔄📞

Want a crash course in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)? Try living off-grid for a while. Every system is critical, failure has real consequences, and redundancy isn’t a luxury—it’s survival. You’ll learn fast that uptime isn’t just an SLA, it’s life support.

The Doge strategy isn’t just about one employer—it’s a test case. If it works, expect a ripple effect across major employers. Business leaders will follow the formula, reshaping workforce dynamics across industries

When industrial machines replaced humans in making chairs, the value was obvious—higher output, lower cost. But is the value of today’s AI just as clear? If your AI project is replacing or augmenting human work, what’s its undeniable ROI? Let’s talk real impact.

An IT example of the DOGE craziness. A department moved Linux and Windows system administration from a 3rd party to a new group of FTEs. They are all on probation. The agency now have to fire all of their sys admins because… 🧵

When you have the world’s richest man running America’s biggest employer, it will impact your kitchen table issues.

People don’t stress over $37T in debt or $1.7T in annual deficits—they feel the squeeze at the grocery store, in taxes, and in interest rates. $55B (or whatever) in waste? That’s real money to the average voter. These aren’t abstract issues. They’re kitchen-table problems.

Scratching my technical architecture itch in a new way—turns out, designing tech solutions and building business process tools require the same problem-solving mindset. The skills transfer seamlessly, and the impact? Just as powerful.

One of my favorite career highlights is mentoring engineers to become architects. It’s not a “next level.” It’s helping people think about their transferable skill and become more professionally valuable.

I don't know which is worse... Well, I know restarting your PC is worse, but I dread closing and re-opening my browser for updates.

What are you building today?

If it’s true, why didn’t I see it on social media?

Spent the day thinking through what it really means to trust an AI-integrated workflow. How do you detect defects? What's the remediation process? How do you evolve the workflow over time? AI isn’t just a tool—it’s a system that demands continuous refinement. Thoughts?

AI-assisted programming isn’t just about writing code faster—it’s a shift in culture and process. To truly adopt it, teams must embrace new coding techniques, AI-generated output, and trust in the system. This isn’t just about devs; it’s a blueprint for AI adoption across industries.

I had Grok analyze my tweets and blog post to summarize my advice on enterprise AI. I have to say, this is pretty accurate and helpful. www.linkedin.com/pulse/what-i...

Brilliant comment.

Mustard!!!

Just recorded Ep. 70 of Infrastructure Matters with my terrific co-hosts Camberley Bates + @thectoadvisor.com. A rousing episode where we explored: - $255B combined #AWS, #Azure, and #GoogleCloud CapEx in 2025 - Are we now in an AI bubble? - Are cloud promotional credits helping fuel it? 1/

Talking with @thectoadvisor.com this morning about how hyperscalers are all reporting they are out of capacity and are now sinking a combined $255 billion into cloud capex this year alone: $100B - Amazon $80B - Microsoft $75B - Google 1/

That's a first as a full grown-up. A debt consolidation company called me. Do they know something I don't? 😅

I’m of the growing mindset that #Doge will send us into an intentional recession, and tariffs are just a politically acceptable way to raise taxes. This is more likely to impact spending on tech and AI. I'm still thinking through these complex relationships. I didn’t have this on my 2025 bingo card.

Elon Musk may be the most important African American leader in Trump's administration. That made me laugh out loud. Who said DEI is dead in this administration?🤣😂

The Federal government is expected to spend more than $8.3B on public cloud computing. How much could the government save by repatriating those workloads to government data centers? Why are we giving all this money to Amazon, Google, and Microsoft? #Doge

If Doge really wanted to save money, it would go after these contracts because there are no unions to fight—just those nasty corporate lawyers. But who wants to pick a fight with the very tech executives on stage with Trump and Musk at the inauguration?

Watch out for how Doge impacts on big GSIs such as IBM, DXC, Accenture, and cloud providers. If that move-fast and break-stuff culture continues through government contractors, these companies will be significantly impacted by reduced or paused government spending.

Vacated the datacenter this past weekend and now I have to make use of this rack.
