It's now all open again - just some Thames Water work taking place on a side road. (In other travel news, the right-hand turn from the A3 to Kingston Hill is closed)

That makes sense, thanks. Now wondering why they didn't have them before.

Agreed, though half term was probably difficult to avoid - it lasted about three weeks because different schools did different dates, so there wasn't one 'official' half term week.

The hope in the next trial phase is that blocking the righthand turn down Crescent Road (but with resident exemptions) will cut 'rat-run' traffic, unless they all then turn off Kingston Hill along Queens Road and down New Road. The meeting to discuss the trial and next steps is on 10 December.

Looks like the traffic survey data during the trial was collected during the quieter half term period (the previous data showing a much bigger rise in traffic on New Road etc was disregarded by highways staff because it was said to be distorted by roadworks)

The highways figures suggest there's been a sharp drop in average speed on Kings Road from 18mph to 13mph, which would be good, though counter-intuitive if the problem was jams beforehand, and if it's now a smooth operating one-way road?

This trial was always likely to be controversial, but not helped by council highways errors - speed humps installed on Kings Road were illegally high for the first six months + and failure to warn New Road residents their narrow road was about to become a part of a one way system

Final thought - there are loads of brilliant primary/secondary schools in and around the borough. Pretty much all rated as good/outstanding by Ofsted. Falling school rolls are having a bigger impact in lots of other areas. And history suggests that what goes down, will come back up again.

According to the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education the proposed 920 place school is scheduled to open in September 2027, subject to planning permission.

The planning application for that secondary school was submitted just over a year ago. It is listed as 'pending consideration' - there've been tweaks to the application following concerns about an 'exceptional population' of slow worms, plus others from Sports England and Transport for London.
