Amazing. They can do what I could do in the shitty 3-door Kia I owned when I was twenty-three.

Yes, *I'm* the one grandstanding right now. Careful you don't get tetanus from the nails holding you to your cross.

You think you won't vote for the far right today, but when the right drags the center further in their direction by lying about what they really want with no pushback, then yes, one day you will vote in favour of Nazi policy and feel like you've maintained your integrity every step of the way.

Centrism no less an ideology than Maoism or Nazism, especially when you treat it as an idea that cannot fail but only be failed. It's an ideology that's easy to exploit if a single person loud and dishonest enough comes along (Trump; Farage) prepared to drag the centre closer to their position.

This attitude is why the three biggest parties in the UK are the Conservatives, the Other Conservatives, and the Emergency Back-Up Conservatives.

L Ron Hubbard tricked himself into believing in Scientology for real. You can make yourself believe anything if you repeat it to yourself often enough

Honestly, the games when better at that level. From GTA IV onwards, Dan Houser started convincing himself he could write a real story and never figured out how to do it properly.

There may well be a game comparable to Homer or Shakespeare, but not from Rockstar, whose storytelling can best be described as mediocre carried by excellent voice acting.

Sounds like the Job Centre in the UK, which punishes people if they try to find work. If you apply for X amount of jobs one week, and apply for fewer than that the next week, you won't get paid. There's no incentive to try hard, especially if you live in an area with poor job prospects.

It took over two hundred years and two world powers to make English the lingua franca. It's always possible that can change but not in a time frame any of us will live to see.

Yeah, replaying the classic Final Fantasies with the boosters enabled made me realise how spartan those games really are, storywise. Not that I mind, compared to modern games they're blisteringly paced.

I hope she remembers this when the wave of stories about children being molested by coaches to "prove their gender" begins. Because it will.

I re-read Childhood's End by Arthur Clarke recently, first time in over a decade, and I'd completely forgotten that early on, the aliens intervene to end anti-white racism in South Africa. A book written 5 years into aparthied.

It's the preferred response of spineless politicians who want to seem like they're doing something without actually having to do something. See Labour's promise to the UK to make it illegal to assault shop workers, even though it's already illegal to assault anyone.

Alternatively, they saved the world, fulfilled the Shanshu prophecy, and were rewarded by being made human. It'd be lame and undercut the theme of the show and the finale, but it would fit the canon.

...then years later my friend was working in the humanities department of the same school and found a sex tape that same teacher had recorded with a student, and was told by the head of the department to quietly lose it somewhere.

When I was in my last year of middle school, a new PE teacher was hired (male) who had a visible erection every time he was working with girls (12-13). In secondary school, one of the history teachers vanished halfway through the year...

I didn't lose a draft, but I did finish a 70k word first draft and realise that it would be better in first person rather than third, which necessitated a from-scratch second draft.

I legit don't understand why Alex Kurtzman is a Star Trek fan when he seems to despise the entire ethos of the series. Who looks at Star Trek and thinks "this is good, but it would be better if it was much more stupid and had ninja fights"?

I think there is a certain degree of your brain just getting it when it comes to learning a skill. I love the guitar, I've spent my life trying to learn the guitar, but there's a level of coordination that my brain just cannot get itself around, so I plateaued a looong time ago.

Based on the last two Rockstar games, it might well be the full game and have no DLC. Still won't be worth paying that much for.
