Congrats to @theguardian.com for co-launching the #89PercentProject - reminding us yet again that vast majority of world’s people want climate action. The climate denial of the populist right is the minority. The media needs to reflect this & governments urgently need to show far greater leadership

On the flip side, sales of “I bought this car before I knew Elon was a…” bumper stickers are through the roof.

According to Elections Canada, 7.3 million Canadians voted in the advance polls. That’s a record. Let’s see a good turnout on Election Day if you haven’t voted yet.

It's funny how when you ask them why they think Pope Francis was "too woke" and request specific examples, they always wound up describing Christ's teachings without a hint of self-awareness.

Dear Romantic Christianists. If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve. Sorry to disappoint.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Kyiv is ready to negotiate directly with Moscow to end the war if it first agrees to a full ceasefire.

Thinking. Why would people want more human bodies, if we do not want their labor, innovation, or joy? The only parallel I can find is farming. Livestock are now 60% of mammal life on the planet, whereas humans are 36%. We want our farm animals stupid, docile, and plentiful. Are we to be farmed?

My big agenda for today is to sit and look up into the trees. The work will be there when I get back.

US shares rose today because Treasury Sec Scott Bessent told JP Morgan the US-China tariffs were “unsustainable” and needed “de-escalation” The markets are all powered by hopium because no way is Trump going to admit he was wrong and China is actually winning.

“One of the many depressing realities of the Trump administration is its failure to understand that, in a free society, arguably the most important role of government is to reduce uncertainty, not do whatever it can to raise it.” www.ft.com/content/e4b7...

On Earth Day, don't throw away your old, disintegrating clothes. Use them for cleaning. I haven't bought anything new for 8-9 years. When my clothes start to fall apart, I use them for dusting, cleaning etc. Better than sending them to landfill.

There were no mobile phones or internet in those days. We called home every 2 weeks for 5 minutes. I was at law school & A was at medical school. We went from college town to college town meeting fellow students. It could have gone horribly wrong, of course, but it was brilliant.

Tonight on the Mead Hall menu (top table only) gammon, eggses, chips n beans IN. AN. ENTIRELY. SEPARATE. CONTAINER! Lower tables. Spammon, no eggs, no chips, no beans. Vegetarian/vegan option. BEANS! Scraps and scrapings by the leper gate as ever.

Tim Pool is a known Russian stooge. Russia pays him a fortune. This is on the record so I am not making anything up.

When it comes to the partition of India, Churchill was not the hero. He was also not @dorianlynskey.bsky.social or @iandunt.bsky.social's boy (boi?). Listen to part 1 of Partition now. Part 2 coming tomorrow. linktr.ee/originstoryp...

It's 8.26pm. My sky is clearing nicely. Hopefully capture Mars with the Beehive later. 🔭 🧪 #astrophotography

I look out at the twilight from the top deck of the bus. In the distance, heavy, slate-grey clouds hang low in the sky, forming the illusion of a mountain range beyond the buildings. For a moment, even though I know it is not real, I relax into the seeming end of the city, and the open space beyond.

If you're wondering why so many right wing individuals are saying hateful things about the late Pope, the reason is simple: he told them that they should care about other people.

On the chemo ward, I met a man having his 100th chemo treatment. His cancer was incurable but he was on a global Harvard trial about how to better treat his cancer (I think it was a type of stomach cancer but can't remember for sure). This is what the Mango Moron wants to cut.

You want a compromise? OK, what's the deal? What do we get, and what do we have to give? Oh, there isn't a deal on offer? You're just asking people to give up stuff in the hope that maybe, possibly, someday they might get something to make up for what they're giving up? No thanks.

Feeling very justified about this ⬇️ #TheArchers

EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas: “The EU will never recognize Crimea as Russian. Crimea is Ukraine.” Which kind of puts the mockers on Trump’s capitulation to Putin for their one-sided “peace deal”.

"The draft text is there and it is ready to sign... We are happy with the draft we presented to the Americans weeks ago..." unless... "... Trump puts tariffs on pharmaceutical products" That is not an honest negotiation. Keep the documents, and tell them why you're walking away.

A woman walks through town in a voluminous coat. Tied to the front of her trolley like a ship’s figurehead is a small, grey cloth elephant.

Since my mom died, I haven’t really wanted to do anything other than dig a hole in the woods and crawl into it. I’m still dragging myself to work every day, etc., but I wouldn’t call what I’m doing right now “living.” I know I’ll get through it, but it is hard as fuck, my dudes.

A big pot of soup is a brilliant cost saver. I made enough potato and leek soup for lunch for 6 days for £2. Add some pide (£1 buys enough for 6 days) and it is a cheap, delicious, and healthy meal.

Black men WHO VOTE, vote OVERWHELMINGLY for the Democrats. Period. Stop being dense.

none of these people - and I really cannot stress this enough - have any idea what they are doing

Badenoch on BBC R4 this morning: People who came here without intending to contribute, just to get a British passport. Didn’t her mum travel here to give birth so she could get one? #ukpolitics

Having expressed complete shock and disappointment at his literal sockpuppet account being blocked, Matt has now blocked us for explaining why. 🤷🏽‍♂️

The majority of people —56% in the US!—are worried about climate change, but not activated. Why not? Most feel helpless, hopeless, and don't know what to do. So more fear won't activate them. Rather, knowing what to do—and being invited to do it—will. Where to start? With a conversation today. 🧵

Many, many years ago (I was 19), I flew to America (NYC)with a friend. We had a flight out of LA 3 months later and literally no fixed plans after the 1st 2 nights. We travelled the country by bus and train, going wherever the whim took us. .It was fantastic. Looks like those days are gone.

And the similarity to Russia intensifies. To get a visa for a trip to Russia, you need to tell them where you will be staying every day. (I know. I had to do it). Authoritarian Govts want complete control.

Zelenskyy to attend Pope Francis's funeral at Vatican

Hey folks. Just wanted to share: we are trying really, really hard to make this movement work, to adjust to the devastating changes every day, and to do so all as volunteers. We know that everyone has questions and concerns, and are more than happy to address each one of them. Our DM's are open!

Has Trump more sway on the BBC than consumers who have a right to know facts and where the (strong) preponderance of evidence lies @ofcom.bsky.social @dcmsgovuk.bsky.social ? Hasn’t the BBC been here before on climate change? Get a bloody grip.

If I haven’t followed you back, please give me a nudge. I will reciprocate.

My best guess is the “fire Powell” Rhetoric is not really about actually firing Powell, though I’m sure he would love to do it. I think it’s more about turning Powell into the new Fauci and the Fed into the CDC. He needs a scapegoat so his followers never blame him for the failures ahead.

I'm pleased/impressed to find that this quote attributed to the late Pope Francis (and dated just a few days ago) is authentic: "Today’s builders of Babel tell us that there is no room for losers, and that those who fall along the way are losers. Theirs is the construction site of Hell."

the colours are brighter! the birds are singing to me!! LIFE IS WORTH LIVING AGAIN!!! (someone said a nice thing about something I created)

One of my autistic sons has refused entry to his bedroom for proper cleaning for about 18 months. His sensory needs & need to control his environment due to other external factors out of control meant this was a REALLY BIG DEAL. Thankfully today he’s accepted the deal: mum deep cleans as BIOHAZARD.

@evanhd.bsky.social I am sure you know that a government failing to take the necessary measures to meet the carbon budgets & net zero would act unlawfully, as required by Parliament. Really difficult to see how the BBC can legitimately say complying with the law is controversial!

Today, in the garden there’s been a blackcap singing from a shrub I planted nine years ago. That’s it. But this, for me, is a joy & gratification I’ve not known before!

The right-wing press has spread a load of baseless falsehoods about heat pumps. That’s the main reason why the technology is politically ‘controversial’. By banning Evan Davis from doing a podcast about heat pumps, the BBC is dancing to the tune of people pushing out blatant misinformation
