That's spot on. We are actually getting trained in something called "active listening". It is not just listening but being able to reflect what is said by paraphrasing.

I got that training way back when; it was useful in my career as an editor. It also made some people more than a little uneasy.
Which reminds me of this: "Lord Vetinari looked attentive, because he'd always found that listening keenly to people tended to put them off."
