I don't think its bad that when I see an old white guy in a red hat coming towards me on the street I hope he trips or steps in dog crap. Might be a little weird though that when I get closer, and see its just a red hat, for a sports team or golf club or something, I want to hug the guy.

Flying the American flag has largely been co-opted & is much like flying the Confederate flag. I've so far refused to give that up and have always raised mine on appropriate holidays. I'd do it today for #mlkday but obviously that's complicated. Damn, I wish I had a Greenland or Canada flag.
