Seeing a massive divide online between Angelenos of all political stripes who understand that the protests in LA yesterday were mostly peaceful and any violence was ICE-initiated and East Coast establishment liberals lecturing “the left” on how riots just amplify right wing talking points.

Bill Kristol more clear eyed than the Democratic Governor of CA or the Democratic Mayor of LA

Trump is a loser. He's weird. He's weak. Nonstop weirdo, loser behavior from a pathetic person. Trumpists are loser. They're weird. They're weak. Trying to break America to soothe their fragile egos. Harming other people because you're insecure and scared and bigoted is loser shit.

This is beyond delusional insanity, it needs its own new terminology for how devoid of reality it is. This man is a deranged lunatic. I live in L.A., am out doing errands. L.A. is exactly like it is on any other day, with a few hundred protestors in a couple of spots in a city of nearly 10,000,000

Cannot stress enough that this is a pitiful action by a weak, scared, pathetic group of insecure, wannabe authoritarians, and they should be mocked until the end of time for wanting to bring in the military over some people protesting them at a Home Depot.

A separate protest at Los Angeles City Hall is now taking place. LAPD reporting crowd size of 1500-2000 people. This is a different part of DTLA than the federal detention center. Separate protests.

the "im not touching you" of posse comitatus

You're a mealy-mouthed loser. There is no violence in Los Angeles, except for the National Guard tear-gassing peaceful protestors. If you can't plainly and truthfully describe what is going on in your state, and you needlessly adopt the lies of fascists, then you have no place in public life.

The California National Guard just tear-gassed and fired impact munitions at reporters, children, and community leaders. Multiple injuries. National Guard has now declared an "unlawful assembly" on the streets. Not clear whether NG has legal authority to enforce that far away from federal buildings.

Received video from the anti-ICE protest in downtown LA. Tear gas already dispersed with families reportedly hit.

HAPPENING NOW: Protesters marching peacefully in the streets of LA to protest ongoing ICE raid operations and Trump’s federalization of the National Guard 📍Los Angeles, CA

HAPPENING NOW: Aerial coverage of protesters marching peacefully in LA to protest ongoing ICE raid operations and Trump’s federalization of the National Guard Reporter: “What we’re looking at right now is a quiet, organized group and demonstrators marching peacefully to their destination.”

Fresh Report: Without any warning or provocation, National Guard grabbed riot shields, advanced on the crowd, and opened up on peaceful demonstrators with rubber bullets. Another crowd just joined the demonstrators, 500-600 people estimated.

From NYC to LA, we are in solidarity with our immigrant brothers and sisters. People deserve to be safe in their homes, workplaces, schools and neighborhoods. We will not allow this administration—or anyone—to strip away the dignity and humanity that every person deserves.

Now is a good time to bump this. It makes it extra hard for the National Guard and soldiers to fire at you if you are literally waving the fucking stars and stripes flag.

Three months ago today, plain-clothes ICE agents abducted Mahmoud Khalil in his apartment building lobby after they'd followed him home. Free Mahmoud.

I’m literally in a very nice cafe in downtown LA right now having brunch.

First they illegally deport citizens. Then they unleash ICE to terrorize communities. Now they’ve got the National Guard in L.A. to silence protestors. This ain’t about law and order. This is what authoritarianism looks like.

Here’s the “Presidential Memorandum”: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... There’s no Insurrection Act invocation; Trump is federalizing 2000 CA Nat’l Guard personnel only to “protect federal functions.” *Without* invoking the Insurrection Act, anything more would violate the Posse Comitatus Act.

1/ If accurate, this is almost certainly a conflict with the Posse Comitatus Act, which prohibits the use of the military for domestic law enforcement, including the National Guard if they are federalized.

Absolutely wild that LA has deployed LAPD, DHS has deployed both ICE and CBP, now the white house is calling in the national guard. You'd think the wildest riot in history was going down in LA right now, but it's actually just a bunch of protestors mostly just standing around holding signs.

The “no unmet need” is the important bit here. Calling in the ARNG for a relatively small protest like this makes Miller, Homan, & co look WEAK. Soft as baby shit.

This is @melbuer.bsky.social on Sean’s account, posting here since it’s his video: the moment that Sean and @ryannemena.bsky.social were injured by what may have been a tear gas canister fired from a line of HSI officers in Paramount, CA.

This is the second day in a row that federal agents shot us both

I'm imagining ICE doing to NYC what it's doing to LA — and the people of NYC responding the way people are in LA — and it all happening under Mayor Cuomo. He'll side with ICE, DHS and, of course, the NYPD. This man, who hates the city and doesn't live here, can not become mayor. Don't rank him.

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets. These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

Idk how people are dooming about this tbh. He sounds fucking terrified and in over his head. Again: they do not have the personnel.

May all of this horror end in the birth of a real democracy in America. May we kill the segregationist project stone-dead.

May we all love decency and human freedom the way the people of Los Angeles clearly do. May we all be as brave.
