@acollierastro.bsky.social is one of the few "Science Communicators" worth your time. Her videos on youtube are both cheeky and knowledgable - always great. She shows the true inner workings of science - both good and bad - and how corporate and corrupt forces try to use it to their own ends.

The number of people here who are *demanding* to despair and give up preemptively is remarkable.

We have established a playing field in which the forces of MAGA can slander, libel, and defame with near impunity...while simultaneously using libel law to attack legitimate critics in an attempt to chill everyone else’s speech.” From @jvl.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/thebulwa...

This Harry Litman piece on the legal ins and outs of the ABC News defamation settlement is worth your time. harrylitman.substack.com/p/et-tu-abc?...

What is going on? ABC is more than happy to capitulate to the Trump protection racket that defines his new administration. For those paying attention, this is another domino that has fallen and we are one step closer to a government like Hungary. American exceptionalism…

Witch Hunt by Rush ... They say there are strangers who threaten us Our immigrants and infidels They say there is strangeness too dangerous In our theaters and bookstore shelves

With Trump’s threat of violence, I’m reminded of “Witch Hunt” song by Rush - yes, I’m that old :)

I’m not quite entirely persuaded by this essay but goddam it is very good and bracing. Really worth a read. www.liberalcurrents.com/a-disease-of...

There are STILL some quality reporting properties. However, very few have learned the right lessons from our new political dynamics. I salute the Bulwark.

Everyone should read this thread.

I have more respect for the people who just said “he’s a jerk and I hate everyone and I just wanna watch things burn” than this level of utterly delusional bonkery

Many announcements by the new Syrian government today. Here are some: *women are free to wear what they want * commercial banks reopen Thursday. •Aleppo airport to resume domestic flights soon. •State employees told to return to work. •Harm to journalists punishable by prison.

Her character got written out of season 5.

CHARLES P. PIERCE has a piece in Esquire called “Turns Out, January 6 Was a Brilliant Political Maneuver”. The theme describes how Jan 6 movers-and-shakers will never face any consequences, and some have even benefited from the attempted coup.

"The end of the Russian- and Iranian-backed Assad regime creates something new, and not only in Syria," @anneapplebaum.bsky.social writes.

How many of the people who denounced the Hunter Biden pardon will condemn Trump for saying he’s going to pardon Jan 6th convicts who assaulted police officers and ransacked the capitol?

Today's lesson discusses the American health care system for those in countries where their system provides care for free or reasonable fees. 👇

👍🏼

Don’t say I never did anything for you guys. On this week’s focus group pod, @jvl.bsky.social is the spirit animal for everyone who wants to argue with 2020 Biden voters who broke for Trump in 2024.

Before you complain listen to the arguments presented here. I was open to the potential of preemptive pardons but can easily see how it a “road to Hell is paved with good intentions” idea.

podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/f... Listening to @mollyjongfast.bsky.social talking to @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social 26:40 or so,hit me like a ton of F’ing bricks people. Frankly I know I didn’t understand this phrase and concept in this context either! 🤯

Why the crypto industry backed Trump: because the crypto oligarchs want billions of dollars from the US government @chrislhayes.bsky.social has the best explanation of this story I have seen youtu.be/qWANiC28M8o?...

Not just in Syria

When I say that some large and possibly determinative segment of voters are unserious I’m suggesting that some of the ways Dems can appeal to them won’t be very nice and will not appeal to people like me. But might be effective. www.thebulwark.com/p/an-unserio...

Kind of hard to make such distinctions when the Nazis’ preferred political party is about to take unified control of the federal government.

This is one of the main points to understand about the case against preemptive pardons: many people for whom they are intended do not want one.
