I don't think the Iran-Iraq war is in the cultural memory of at least 'the West'. Truly one of those wars that was utterly horrific on a massive scale, and seems to almost be forgotten in popular idea of wars. Half a million dead. Eight years. Trench warfare, human waves, chemical weapons.

fwiw, iodine tablets aren't really worth taking It only helps to mitigate risk from radioiodine and iodine - not external sources. So it'll be near/completely useless against both a nuclear pulse AND the fallout. You'd also have to take it ~24 hours prior to exposure to get the most benefit.
