I spent more than 15 years as a local news reporter but now I'm a public health graduate student. First novel completed in summer 2024. No, you can't read it. Because it's not good. I'm busy with schoolwork. Portfolio: https://timothychipp.me

I know a few who openly say it's because women rule the world. Real "red pill" nonsense. That's as real as the racism and homophobia, though.

They hate us because we spend considerable resources killing their people. And I fear we're only going to stoke that animosity fire once more. This is the worst case scenario, yet again. We're hurting ourselves by hurting others. Just like bullies in school, we're lashing out. And it's unbecoming.

We drop these bombs and make these people feel the same way about us as Americans felt about "them" in the aftermath of those awful plane attacks. And then we wonder why they hate us. No shit, one of the most popular and enduring catchphrases of that time was "They hate us for our freedom." Bullshit

But most people on social media have no clue what it's like when it comes to our door. They weren't alive (or conscious) of life on September 11, 2001. Their experience is of watching it on YouTube. It's history to them. They didn't experience the way Americans behaved. Their fear palpable.

Michael fucking Crichton (of wait, he's not a slight red flag, he's a 200-foot-waving-over-Texas-town red flag)

Why. Do. You. Eat. Your. Own? What the fuck? Gotta agree 100% on 100% of the issues or they're not worth respecting? Get the fuck out of here with that garbage noise. That is loser mentality. You're a loser (in that this thinking contributed to the slaughter that was 2024). Grow up, child.

Those folks in retirement homes outvote you and yours every election. That's why they matter and he's still a senator. You want him gone? Get the younger populations to actually vote instead of screaming and yelling and then staying home every November.

Judging by the images, it may have been 5 million in NYC alone, senator. It was more than 13 million. Please have your staff update its information.

What it actually says? Which version? The original Greek? The twentieth translation? The fourth different English version? Which one am I supposed to know?
(For the record, I'm totally on your side here, just lobbing an alternative stance at you for conversation's sake. You don't have to justify.)

Maybe just maybe you're part of the silent (silenced?) majority, and the loud and obnoxious crazy fuckers (sorry, best word to describe them) just get heard more because they make better images on the TV and cell phone screens.

The new story has been percolating back there for half a year, actually. But it was a self-contained short story at first, and I've only decided to really expand it just today. It's exploring a different part of urban fantasy than I'm used to writing, so I'm eager to see if I can actually do it.

I enjoyed your narrative arc here. But I think it's because I'm an elder millennial.

I don't expect you to read my silly thoughts. I'm a nobody. Nobodies rarely get through the slog that is the constant barrage of mentions and reposts. But if you do, I hope you can reconsider your decision to skedaddle back to the cesspool that is X. This place needs more legitimacy, not less. TY

Mr. Cuban, I wonder what sort of conversations you've inserted yourself into where you're getting turned off by the rhetoric here. Why is it so negative? Is it the price of your status in our society? Might you benefit from ignoring the trolls? Instead of walking away from the platform?
comment in response to

The internet isn't just filled with trolls. There are genuine people lurking. They sometimes stay silent because the noise is too overwhelming. They sometimes speak up when they need to be heard. The listen to arguments and speak their peace and leave.

The name calling has always been ridiculous. As has the gatekeeping of what's an appropriate opinion to hold and what's problematic. It exists everywhere, including in politics. But it's human beings simply attempting to control the narrative around them. If you let that go, it's easier to move on.

But those people can and should be ignored. By you, by me, by everyone around them. They spew nonsense looking for the reaction because it makes them feel good. They have never added to the conversation. And it's a conversation we need to have. It absolutely can be had here.

Or is it because they don't know what's up, what's down, what's left, and what's right, because their world has shattered? I'll be honest, I'm betting it's a lot of both. I'm betting Blue Sky has attracted the same cannibals that made X unbearable. And the contrarians.

You felt concerned enough to publicly state Blue Sky is not a great place to have a discussion. Why isn't it? Are people calling you names? Are they angry when one bit of your overall message gets misconstrued and they pile on? Is it because they don't want to argue?
comment in response to

Mr. Cuban, how many thousands have lost their jobs since you joined Blue Sky? How many have been deported? How many have been arrested? You've not experienced this, so it's difficult to understand where the anger is coming from. Even if you tell yourself why, bias can obstruct the top-down view.

When the world continues to exist from one day to the next as we find it, a filter gets turned off or ignored by many who aren't strong-willed or level headed. It becomes about the fear of uncertainty causing the deep anger.

This type of person is likely to lob accusations against a billionaire who has the means to do something about the world as it exists. Most of us do not (personally, I've been without full-time work since Jan 1, 2022, and it sucks) have those means.

Blue Sky is literally the anti-establishment right now. In a few years, this may change as the drive for profitability overtakes the drive to be the rebel. As such, it attracts a specific type of internet user. In particular, one who has an outspoken negative view of the world we're occupying.

I've read a bit about @mcuban.bsky.social's comments about this site, and how it's devolving into something a bit toxic. I think the condemnation is a bit short-sighted. And I think it might show Mr. Cuban's biases that he's railing on Blue Sky for the situation he finds himself in.
comment in response to

Is Blue Sky a smaller community than what's found on the larger, more established social media sites? Yes. Does it make it an echo chamber? Yes. But it's only damaging if you use social media to inform you of the world. If you use it to post pithy comments and remarks, you're in no danger here.

Part of the issue is that the people most regular folks talk to think "You just don't like THIS authoritarianism, but have no problem when the Democrats want to force us to do things." And then it becomes a fight because no one wants the Dems being authoritarian, but try telling them that.

For reference (part of the whole quote was removed due to Blue Sky character limits): www.cdc.gov/vaccine-safe...
I don't think this issue has anything to do with the transition to MAHA shills. I just think the author wrote a sentence fragment and forgot the last clause.

And that's why you asked. No harm in asking. Credit to you. Better than making an assumption and going all-in berating someone over a misunderstanding, which seems to be what the Internet is for sometimes.
