"They're putting persecuted Christian refugees in camps in the jungle" sounds like something Glenn Beck would accuse the Obama administration of doing and yet now it's a pillar of the Republican agenda.

Cost-minimizing ≠ Efficient

I seriously cannot believe this was published. Good Lord.

What kind of jerk writes something like this? “It’s so good for all of us!” but not taking into account an entire sovereign nation. The @nytimes.com is trying to outdo the awful job they did covering the run up to the US invasion of Iraq.

when I get really down and feel like I’m spiralling, I give the 2014 World Cup USA-Belgium hype video a rewatch I think this vision of a liberal, inclusive America wins out. Because the vision that calls us to our best selves, not our worst impulses, is who we want to be. youtu.be/trezxZUrEz8

I get this dilemma but….And so what? Being on the plane to amplify more lies and propaganda? The WH press corps is being used as a prop. Spend the time reporting instead.

if journalism is supposed to be one of the institutions that safeguards a free society then journalists should be opponents of autocratic takeovers, brian.

If the legitimate press just permanently stopped attending these events and were replaced by propaganda outlets, that would be both optically clarifying and improve actual journalism.

The lead prosecutor in the Eric Adams case has resigned over DOJ's order that the case be dismissed. "I expect you will eventually find someone who will be enough of a fool, or enough of a coward, to file your motion. But it was never going to be me." www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The AP should stop covering Trump events. Instead send those White House reporters out into the field to report on the harms and repercussions of his policies. The U.S. public never needed coverage of pseudo-events anyway.

@cleaver.house.gov and Rep. Bell should do the same at the University of Missouri.

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

When MAGA liars say, "I'm not familiar with that," why don't anchors immediately stop the show, give them a 2-minute tour of social media posts, articles and videos as documentation, and then re-ask the question? It would be good TV. But anchors don't want to embarrass the guest. Because ... access.

This is a deliberate choice. Cruelty is the point.

Well played, Philly. Well played. www.phillyvoice.com/billboard-pr...

we have moved rapidly from “this loser never would’ve made it through the background check for a security clearance” to “this guy’s laptop is a crime scene”

I've written for years that we should be more forgiving of old social media posts. Otherwise, we freeze people in the worst versions of themselves. But when the ugly posts are from the last *half-year*, that's obviously not old news: that's evidence of a person who needs to change!

The shuttering of USAID is horrific, and will do irreparable harm to Christian missions around the world. One of the most anti-Christian actions taken by a president in my lifetime.

Remember. It’s never: We fight for (these people) because maybe we’re more at risk if we don’t. No more Niemölling. We fight because they are coming for anyone. Every single person matters. Each and every human being’s life and safety is worth the fight.

Hey @cleaver.house.gov

I’m aware it’s like the lowest of low stakes but Tommy Tuberville still lying about recruiting Patrick Mahomes is just amazing

Musk is the living embodiment of AI: a broken, tech-bro tool that inserts itself into everyone's life unsolicited and makes everything worse.

I think about this MLK, Jr. quote a lot. “I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro’s great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizens Councilor or the Ku Klux Klanner but the White moderate who is more devoted to ‘order’ than to justice.”

I feel like we don't talk enough about how many lives have been saved by accurate, publicly available weather forecasts

What a terrible question. The question is: “It’s illegal for you to shut down USAID. Only Congress can. This violates federal law. Why do you think you are allowed to break the law?” This q is like asking someone charged w murder “do you think you’re allowed to shoot someone in cold blood?”

The @nytimes.com has made a conscious decision to not highlight that this is all illegal. Total failure of the paper of record.

Just extraordinary that @peterbakernyt.bsky.social (3 paragraphs down) will only say “violation of international law” and not “President Trump proposes crimes against humanity on world historic scale,” of the sort that Slobodan Milosevich died in prison for: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/05/u...

Boy, real moral quandary. Do I do the right thing? Or the thing that benefits me personally, despite how awful the consequences would be? Do I throw away all of the basic ethics of my profession to support a charlatan? What if he's a very popular charlatan? gotta feel bad for Cassidy, tough choice

if I understand American politics correctly, progressivism is something that requires 60 senate votes to work, while national conservatism doesn’t require any votes at all

Also and not for nothing, can we be done with the whole “run government like a business” BS, please
