If you think the way the most powerful men treat their partners and families isn’t important, you’ve already fallen for their manipulation. The violence at home is part and parcel of their abuse of power

In case you've never seen it, here's a way of understanding unethical and destructive leadership. It is known as the toxic triangle.

These things seem like they are connected. From the home page of @apnews.com

This deserves a repost in case you missed it the first time, or even if you didn't. Just plain old good basic stuff that we no longer can take for granted. @bobstevenson.bsky.social bobstevenson.substack.com/p/nine-simpl...

The Atlantic's latest cover story is out now and it is fascinating. @yappelbaum.bsky.social on why Americans stopped moving—and why that's a much bigger deal than you might realize: www.theatlantic.com/magazine/arc...

Friends, I got to interview @latashamorrison.bsky.social about her book. I enjoyed the conversation, and I hope you'll give it a listen: denverseminary.edu/denver_podca...

Composure, Saints! This is a vital witness to our faith in Christ in any era of chaos. Upon waking, let us meet with Jesus and trade our fear & anger for his courage & compassion. Rely on God. Read Scripture. Be brave. Pray valiantly. Act like grownups. Help the hurting. Love defiantly.

I just learned there's a "Mom's For Liberty" and a "Mom's For Liberties." It is worth knowing the difference: www.momsforliberties.com

The lack of critical thinking in evangelical Christianity is increasingly startling. There are large pockets of people who have fused to a specific, cynical (nihilistic?) narrative and interpret everything through that lens. Lord, have mercy.

This is worth reading. Many Stories Matter by Dr. Wade Mullen wademullen.substack.com/p/many-stori...

It’s very hard to love when you’re trying to win.

Do the people in the pews have any idea where their “missions” offerings go?

"To live no tight, neat role is truly sacrificial, it is also truly creative because it leaves us open and free (dare we say) like God himself." - Alan Jones, former dean of the Cathedral of San Francisco

"Is it possible to live in this increasingly inhospitable world in a hospitable way? Is it possible to do something focused and intentional about what is wrong in our society without turning the wrongdoers into the enemy?

"This is what God's kingdom is like: a bunch of outcasts and oddballs gathered at a table, not because they are rich or worthy or good, but because they are hungry, because they said yes. And there's always room for more." - Rachel Held Evans, Searching for Sunday

It started with the subjugation of another race, and it continues in its abuse of women and children. It needs to be dissolved. #FleeSBC

Too many Americans are consumed by violence and conspiracy fantasies. It is alarming.

If you were shaped by evangelical purity, I highly recommend this article.

I am thankful for Mark. Even if his 90-minute first draft isn't perfect, we need someone to be facilitating the conversation to reform healthcare. And elected officials don't do it since they get healthcare for life and don't care to reform something that doesn't impact them. Keep talking, Mark!

Thanks to @baptistnews.com for publishing this article about an interview I conducted with the fabulous @ryanburge.bsky.social. American Christianity needs to extend more charity. baptistnews.com/article/cloi...

As a US society, at least there is still some measure of accountability when (non-wealthy) people lie: apnews.com/article/hunt...

A must read story that offers a terrifying window into the world of contemporary far right and pro-MAGA paramilitaries. The friendly ties between these aspiring terrorists and law enforcement is especially concerning. Not surprising to folks familiar with the history of the far right, but still bad.

Absolutely appalling. www.cnn.com/2024/12/30/u...

A back injury has me thankful for all the times when I move freely without thinking about it. But the persistent pain has me slowing down, appreciating some of the things I often overlook or ignore. Current view:

"all behavior is communication." The book, connections over compliance, is starting off as a very delightful resource.

This is a worthwhile read.

“There is nothing more ugly than a Christian orthodoxy without understanding or without compassion” - Francis Schaeffer, The God Who is There

Moment of gratitude: no one was seriously injured, airbags and seatbelts worked wonderfully. (Not experiencing gratitude for the uninsured driver barreling down I-25 in the passing lane after two inches of snow. They went sideways across two lanes of traffic.)

Auntie Beth is amazing. Her memoir is an incredible encouragement for those who've interacted with the SBC or other types of fundamentalist Christianity.
