VANCE: "Our view has been very clear that we don't want a regime change."   HEGSETH: "This mission was not and has not been about regime change."   RUBIO: Regime change is "certainly not the goal of what we're working on here."   TRUMP:

Former President Bill Clinton, who was first elected governor at 32 years old, says that 33-year-old Zohran Mamdani doesn't have enough experience to be NYC mayor.

it’s even more demoralizing when the history you’re repeating is history you were around for the first time

A Dem lawmaker and her husband were killed by a guy for their political views and it’s already out of the news.

ICE agents in tactical gear chase down and tackle a U.S. citizen in L.A. After realizing he’s American, they just slink away. Their only explanation: “Why were you running?” Probably because two masked men with guns were trying to snatch him.

A Democratic Mayor arrested. A Democratic Congresswoman indicted. A Democratic Senator tackled and detained. A Democratic State Representative killed. A Democratic State Representative in critical condition. We can all see where this is going.

We know what we have to do to save our city from Andrew Cuomo. We're cross endorsing 🤝 @bradlander.bsky.social

A perfect ad. Pass this along to everyone you know in New York.

W.E.B. Du Bois on Robert E. Lee: “Either he knew what slavery meant when he helped maim and murder thousands in its defense, or he did not. If he did not he was a fool. If he did, Robert Lee was a traitor and a rebel–not indeed to his country, but to humanity and humanity’s God.”

i just watched a clip of stephen miller talking to hannity from a few days ago and my god is that guy a stone cold freak. like, everything about him is profoundly off-putting, like a bug in an eggar suit

A damning pair of charts. People on lowest incomes own FIVE TIMES fewer cars than the richest do. Meanwhile kids in most deprived areas are FIVE TIMES more likely to be injured by cars.

I was a medic at the Santa Ana protests in OC today. I watched police fire tear gas, flash bangs, & rubber bullets into crowds of men, women, & children. Other medics and I were clearly marked with red crosses, and the police were targeting us. One of the most fucked up things I’ve ever seen.

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

"It's really hard to fathom that the guy making my pizza for 25 years is a gangster and a terrorist, and the person who shows up in an unmarked car wearing a mask and body armor comes to take him away is somehow the good guy” www.wnep.com/article/news...

very fun to read frederick douglass accurately describe the problem with the pardon power in 1867

It's impossible to make sense of American zoning, historically or today, without understanding that it has almost nothing to do with separating residential and classic nuisance. It's a mechanism of segregation, that's it.

Today I saw the executive director of the American Enterprise Institute attempt to address a conference room full of leaders of state human services agencies and I have never seen a speaker more reviled. Big swaths of the audience (myself included) simply walked out because he was such an asshole.

“Inclusionary zoning” is one of those policies that sounds great at first but then when you look at the actual impact it ends up just being a massive tax on new apartments that exempts single family homes, accomplishing the exact opposite of the intended effect

More data supporting the need to restrict vehicle sizes. Car bloat is killing people, plain and simple.

This UCLA psychiatrist's expert evaluation of ex-sheriff Alex Villanueva is ... really something. (The county hired Cohen to do this eval to determine whether Villanueva had really suffered emotional distress as a result of being put on a "Do Not Rehire" list, as he alleged in his lawsuit.)

My God. BREAKING: Several people killed, others injured after vehicle [not vehicle, driver] drives into Vancouver street festival crowd: police. Vancouver police say the driver is in custody after incident near Fraser Street and East 41st Avenue.

and this is a policy choice.

Detroit-style pizza is better than NY or Chicago-style.

i agree with this

me this morning www.nytimes.com/2025/04/09/o...

My whole life has been, “democrats are better at equity/environmental/climate stuff, and republicans are better at the economy” but there’s honestly never been anything republicans are good at, certainly not the economy

On Fri 2/14/25 4:02 pm the driver (62/F) of a 2014 Honda CRV who was turning left from Congressional Plaza to Halpine Rd hit & injured a pedestrian (60/F) crossing properly in a median/crossing island. Rockville police (DD5653004H) did not find anyone at fault. Left on green🟢 across WALK.

This asshole raised prices and ruined your retirement savings, and now he's out golfing for the rest of the weekend.

yall we can’t collectively screech that “no one’s doing anything!” and then say “no not like that” when someone actually does something. is Booker’s filibuster gonna save the world? of course not. but since courage begets courage it could lead to more. I’m fucking cynical as hell but come on.

California's new daylighting law prohibits parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk approach (even unmarked). This important law protects all road users: children, people on foot and bicycle and drivers. Most crashes are at intersections. This law will save lives. Photo credit: @bfurnas.bsky.social

This guy is in one of the worst prisons in the world with no way out and may spend the rest of his life there because, it appears, he has an autism awareness tattoo in honor of his little brother. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

i am going to force jon stewart into a hot dog costume at gunpoint

Share the media. The news is compromised. We're starting to boil over.

Traffic evaporation happens every time you narrow roadways or charge tolls, but we still have to convince electeds and planners every single time that it works because they never believe it.

There's a Sustainability version of this too: Advocate for change to greener lifestyles and you'll quickly be told this has to be a "Just Transition", yet I don't recall anybody ever explaining how the status quo is just

Cost of living is a problem throughout the country, but it’s off the charts in California. Why? Because of our obscenely high housing costs, driven by a massive housing shortage. We make it way, way too hard to build new homes & that needs to change. 🧵

MEUSER: You've got Trudeau saying how the president is making a dumb move. That's bad diplomacy. SANCHEZ: I'm not sure how it's good diplomacy to say that a neighboring country should be the 51st state and that you're gonna impose economic hardship to achieve that goal.

The DOGE firings have nothing to do with “efficiency” or “cutting waste.” They’re a direct push to weaken federal agencies perceived as liberal. This was evident from the start, and now the data confirms it: targeted agencies overwhelmingly those seen as more left-leaning. 🧵⬇️

HOT RESEARCH NEWS! Motonormativity ("car brain") is a bias that stops people making rational judgements about driving en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motonor... Our new study shows where this bias comes from AND how it makes people think they're odd for supporting changes to the transport system 🧵
