#StandingStoneSunday The Processional at #LoughGur #NotCork

We were treated to 15 minutes of light at the end of a wild and rainy day, resulting in a mad dash and some "erratic" behaviour 😁 #LandscapePhotography #ShareMondays2025

Interesting but disturbing article by @kimlanelaw.bsky.social worth reading. “The unitary executive theory takes inspiration from the fact that the US Constitution, drafted in 1787 before the modern administrative state could be imagined, mentions only the president in Article II on executive power”

We’ve landed on Bluesky - just in time for our 90th anniversary! 🎉🦋 The Amateur Entomologists’ Society has shared its passion for insects since 1935, from butterflies to beetles - and even fabulous flies! 🦟 Follow us for news on our events, books, journals & more. 🐞🦗 #amentsoc #Entomology #BugClub

This small megalithic tomb in the north of the Burren of County Clare is likely to be a wedge tomb. These are relatively common monuments in the area, and they usually date to around 2500BCE, during the Chalcolithic Period. A transitional time between the Neolithic and Bronze Age. #SpéirGhorm 🏺

County Donegal, Ireland. Well worth the visit…

Silence Not a breath of wind on this serene summer morning. #landscapephotography #naturephotography #photography

This is why we need independent media outlets funded by the public. Our Byline Times story is still available to read despite attempts to suppress it.

How better to start the weekend than with some colourful, unabashed joy? Here's just a small selection of the Ophrys bee #orchids we'll be sharing with our guests on our popular Orchids of Rhodes tour in just a few weeks time.

Cloud reflections on a sandy beach. Alltgrishan.

Back in the UK where the flowers are more springlike than the weather. Primrose , celandine , gorse, hazel, sweet violet and top to bottom galanthus nivalis, galanthus elwesii and leucojum. @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #[email protected]

Oooh this will be lovely! @danmulhall.bsky.social

When the news is dark, and the darkness is growing, find the light in nature. Big, BIG skies over Loch Ewe, NWScotland #Space, #place & #landscape #Windswept published by William Collins, out now in paperback #naturewriting #writingcommunity #landscapephotography

Sunday morning read & a gentle alternative to mayhem. It's a joy to write letters with @KirsteenBell & share stories of our Highland homes. Here's our latest in @tweetbytheriver's 'Croft, Coast & Hills: letters from the NW Highlands': www.caughtbytheriver.net/2025/02/crof...

Yep, that old date storage problem. Brings back so many memories of working on the very real Y2K potential disaster. It won’t just be ages that fall foul…

A detailed analysis of Russia’s economic pressures. Insightful as always from @ldfreedman.bsky.social

Estes Textures . From rough wood + sparkling snow to icy bubbles + ancient lichen...Marys Lake, Lily Lake, and Sprague Lake in/near Estes Park, CO, offered diverse delights for the visually curious 🤩. Sixteen small scenes from all three lakes, Feb 2025. #winterphotography #rmnp #textures

Frozen sunrise. Malvik, Norway. Nov 2016. See that ice crack in the bottom of the image? That’s where I went through the ice and ended waist deep in the swap. Totally worth it😀

😂😂

Of everything I read or watched this week to keep making sense of what we're seeing, this interview with @kimlanelaw.bsky.social was most helpful. Hungary's democracy was robust before Orban came back into power in 2010. We have a lot to learn from how they lost it so profoundly, so that we don't.

Michael Longley will be missed

Been thinking about this speech a lot lately. One for all those happy to burn the rule of law because it's their side doing it this time. youtu.be/PDBiLT3LASk?...

Mike Pence just reposted an old article he wrote about the limitations on the powers of a president. For some reason. Here is a part of it.

Canadians adapting to Trump’s threats by cancelling holidays to US, buying Canadian, and rewiring their trade to Europe and Asia. 👏👏👏 🇨🇦 ♥️🇪🇺

There's still joy and beauty out there, amid the chaos and ruins of everything around us; we just need to find it, embrace it, share it. #snowdrops #nature #joy #sharing #photography

If you want to know why Vance meant everything he said yesterday, and why that's even more dangerous than it might appear, have a read of my post this week on the ideology behind Musk and Vance. "Technology vs Democracy" (£/free trial) samf.substack.com/p/technology...

"Democracy will not go down without a fight" @kimlanelaw.bsky.social explains Trump’s power grab and what can be done to stop the destruction of American democracy in latest Democracy for Sale Highly recommended reading this in full democracyforsale.substack.com/p/the-poster...

Another depth-focused view of the seismic swarm off the island of Thera (Santorini) in #Greece. This time, we have a combination of three plots - a horizontal depth vs time graph (with circle size indicating the earthquake magnitudes) - a bar plot summarizing the total number of events by magnitude

open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/t... Fascinating insight into the ideologies behind Thiel, Musk etc.

Beautiful example of a Dublin townhouse restoration. Always interesting : theirishaesthete.com
