Being chronically ill is not lazy. Resting when your body needs it is not lazy. Saying “no” is not lazy. Taking care of yourself is not lazy. Ableism teaches us to guilt ourselves for respecting our body & its limits. Change the narrative. Taking care of yourself is powerful.

inside me there are two wolves and they both want to buy a lot of books

This one still gets the tears flowing 🥹 Happy 10th anniversary to Ori and the Blind Forest

"AI art Ghibli trend" but it's Miyazaki's reaction and actually art

Some photos from March 💛

My March films have been: ✨ Back In Action ✨ The Lord of the Rings trilogy (rewatch) ✨ Unforgiven ✨ Dancer in the Dark

friend: so how's your book coming along?? me: well, I've fancasted all my characters. created a soundtrack for the adaptation. envisioned the climactic final scene in season 5. and have my world tour interview answers prepped. friend: oh cool, when can I read it? me: so you see, the thing is...

Better a pig than a gen A.I. user!

In light of all the AI slop, reupping this little chat I had with Ghibli's VP Atsushi Okui last week about using Princess Mononoke's original negatives to create the new 4K restoration

The books I’ve read this March are: ✨ Shadows of the Workhouse, Jennifer Worth ✨ A History of Tom Jones, a Foundling, Henry Fielding ✨ Cold Enough For Snow, Jessica Au ✨ Tiny Moons: A Year of Eating in Shanghai, Nina Mingya Powles (1/2) #booksky #books #literature

give em the ol razzle dazzle

one of my most prized possessions is this kazuo oga book i bought at the ghibli museum. he has devoted decades of his life to creating some of the most beautiful illustrations. and these ai fascists think typing some words into a theft machine is the same thing. fuck off.

I thought I had a slow month this month but I ended up reading 6 books, watching 5 films, 2 tv shows, and I finished a video game… where did I find the time?

Ursula K. Le Guin on the true pain of being a writer

writer: and to you, my favourite character, my most precious of all the beans, I award you the highest honour I can bestow... character: OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH— writer: the most suffering

Starting an old favourite. #booksky

Always look to see what the tech bros want for their own kids: small class sizes with human teachers, human tutors with expert content knowledge, cell phone restrictions in classrooms, high per pupil spending, the arts and humanities--and much more they say is too costly for public schools.

I’ve finished sea of stars!!! I’m actually crying. That was so fun; god, I love this game!!

I’ve posted an old review on substack- Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It was definitely interesting to see the difference between my opinion then and now! #booksky #literature open.substack.com/pub/tmhanson...

I’ve been reading Tom Jones, a Foundling solidly for two weeks. I’ve got less than 100 pages left… I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself once it’s over

me: biiiiiig day of writing ahead. the big day of writing in question:

I've waited 3 years to get a good shot of this Little Egret, it's proved elusive and camera shy, but sometimes you get lucky. @everyheron.bsky.social

Some new books to leaf through 🥰 #booksky

I just never know what's going to happen next in this book

I am so close to finishing sea of stars, it’s insane. I almost don’t want it to end but I’m also ready to wrap up months of playing

post a picture of you that’s not actually a picture of you:

weekend vibe

I love getting the train + I’ve made a point of using it for years. I’m a huge advocate for public transport. However, I’ve stopped using it as an option. I can’t deal with sitting on the floor, hauling a heavy suitcase around whilst running, + the steep prices. Please de-privatise the train service

The physical books for this year’s reading challenge (Feb to May). Currently reading Tom Jones, hence the bent page 🫣 #booksky #literature

I recently finished Shadows of the Workhouse by Jennifer Worth and it was incredibly harrowing. It leaves much to think about. Despite that, it was a fantastic book!

Wow. it must feel terrible when someone takes something you made and uses it without permission or payment

For all the flak George Lucas gets for his writing, pretty hard to deny the "so this is how liberty dies" line is an unfortunately spot on banger.

Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

I’m flying through Nomadland! Bruder is a fantastic writer but reading about van dwellers in the US feels deeply unsettling. They are a resilient and creative group - I’ll give them that!- but the exploitation of the elderly in late-stage capitalism is hard to stomach. #booksky

I’ve literally got three tours lined up for this year- Patti Lupone, Lucy Worsley, and Beyoncé 🥹 feeling blessed 🙏🏼
