As a poor kid at a rich school, I encountered just this sort of abusive asshole all the time. Kids who'd try to buy their way into relationships/friendships and then demand their marks be constantly thankful, obsequious, and mindless. Somehow Vance is both the abuser and the lickspittle toady.

On the US siding with Russia against Ukraine and Europe, I’m as appalled as anyone, but my reaction to the shock and surprise is “it’s about time you caught up.” Trump’s Putin sympathy, along with Vance’s, Musk’s, and MAGA media’s, has been consistent.
