An upright city bike is also more stable than a racing bike and keeps your eyes up so you see the hazards. And you tend to just relax a bit and ride slower.

Isn't this 10 times what Norfolk Council recently said was too much to spend on cycling over a few years because not everyone could cycle? And near to the Hospital where they said they couldn't manage to build a shared-use path more than two meters wide?

Yes, although keeping my tongue in my cheek I'd be very worried about anyone actually running their car at that power for as long as they have their lights on.

To be fair, old incandescent lightbulbs were actually more like home heating as so little of the energy actually came out as light anyway. It's totally different with LEDs and CFSLs but old habits die hard.

It's going to be "conflict" as soon as you have multiple people going in different directions, not just at busy times. It needs to be wider than 3m to account for the high usage, and the need to ride/walk away from the edge as there is no longer a verge giving a "buffer zone" from the road.

There's also the barrier of storing them: there is a system to get an allocated parking space near the home for disabled people but how do you go about getting somewhere suitable for an adapted cycle? My local council won't even allow you to rent a garage to store a cycle, only for a motor vehicle!
