man, playing Quake II and Quake 4 on Xbox 360 is... an experience. Quake II is not well-suited to controller, and seems buggy in spots. Meanwhile, Quake 4 is a one-way trip to chugtown as the game's framerate barely struggles to hold over 30 in even the most inactive areas.

I am not a fan of gatekeeping in retro stuff. We're long past the event horizon where people can hold even just the "major" stuff in their head. And only the most dedicated of obsessives can even assemble a "big picture". Not knowing a particular game is common, even if you like the old games.

The Xbox/PS3 UE-era was a dark age for stable frame rates. I revisited and played through a bunch of my favourite Xbox 360 games a few years ago, and it was eye-opening just how poor the framerates were. You're trudging through treacle a lot of the time in the first Mass Effect.
