The thing is, you can do it well. The HBO/BBC His Dark Materials adaptations showed lots of Will/Asriel/Coulter/the Magisterium that is only alluded to in the books, and it was enjoyable! But they also squished 4 series worth of TV into 3, rather than stretching 4 or 5 out to 10 🤷🏼♂️

We'll get neverending sparring matches between the Muggle PM and Minister for Magic. Multiple episodes of flashback to James Potter humiliating Snape for kicks. Exceptionally hamfisted looks into Cho Chang's family life.

Aus seasons 1 and 2 are both worth sticking with as they have fantastic endings. I remember Aus season 1 being a bit slow and frustrating to begin with but being utterly hooked by the end. And season 2 has a Traitor so unlikeable he makes Paul Gorton look like Dolly Parton.
