2 collages with woven backgrounds for #februllage day 23 prompt TAPESTRY #collage #collageart

Been reading Henry Alford’s “I Dream of Joni” (jonimitchell.com/library/view...) — and loving it. Her “Blue” is the soundtrack of my adolescence, we share a birthday, and she’s just everything. The book’s full of telling vignettes; what a queen. #booksky

“same old” Mixed media #collage (paper, acrylic paint, graphite, sandpaper) For the #februllage day 21 prompt OLD. And geez am I tired of the same old, same old.

Romanesco, a word that escaped me until I searched “green fibonacci vegetable.” Oh, brain, you dorky devil. Such perfection in nature 💚

cool as hell

This, Motion by Peter Sandberg, is prob my fav song right now — a musical balm, should you need it, too. 🩵 youtu.be/DaJVIeF2QLk?...

A little collaged something for the Februllage day 15 prompt TIGER. Stay wild, buddies.

“bad romace” 7x10” Mixed media collage (paper, tissue, graphite, ink) For Februllage 2025’s day 14 prompt ROMANCE. 💖

Happy Valentines! Do yourself a favor, make and eat a giant heart-shaped chocolate-chip pizza. And for gosh sakes tell people in your life that you love ‘em ❤️

Spent most of the snow day making string bags and baking with my kiddo. Cozy & nice ❄️🌨️❄️

⚠️VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TODAY⚠️ to staff Portland area warming shelters. Please pass this along.

Strange craft o’ the day: made a circle loom with clothespins and an embroidery hoop so that I can knit a big, loose hemp bag to hold … dirty rags? Not sure yet. Instrux in “Making Things,” a book by Erin Boyle & Rose Pearlman on crafting with everyday objects — very useful!

The NEA will no longer fund arts programs that promote DEI or "gender ideology." The federal agency has cancelled grants that have funded programs for underserved communities for more than 20 years.

Upcycled Bowl/Basket #1 8” diameter, roughly 8” tall, made with rope and upcycled textiles. Will probably add a crocheted border and some colorful free stitching on the surface. Making things by hand is so satisfying 🩵

Fair to say I’m a little preoccupied with using my visual art to process America today. I did a lot of work with challenged books/speech suppression last year; thinking about how to respond to new efforts to erase “woke” language, eg, popular.info/p/the-nsas-b... 🤔

A few riffs on disconnecting the dots and the state of things today. For the Februllage day 10 prompt DOTS ✨ #collage

aaaaah now I want to go dancing at Crystal Ballroom. Yeah yeah, that’s right, I was alll about the swing revival, and this Decoder Ring episode’s making me verrrry nostalgic. 💃🏻 slate.com/podcasts/dec...

Keep calling your elected officials! Today I made calls re: the cuts to NIH and NSF. Took less than 10 minutes. Stay vocal. Stay engaged. If you’re a Nervous Nellie like me, an app like 5Calls is a huge help 🩵

“mountains beyond mountains” 3”x5.5” Paper ephemera, graphite, ink For Februllage 2025, day 9 prompt HORIZON — always trying to take the long view … #februllage #visualart #collage

A song for when you need to remember who the heck you are: youtu.be/s0eDLvEFhzI?.... From the album Haunted by Poe, which I’ve listened to roughly once a week for the past 20+ years.

“comically lost,” a little collage for the Februllage day 8 prompt CARTOON. #februllage2025 #collage #collageart

Interested in gelli printing? Hope’s got a class for that — big fun!

Today in crafting: ripped up an old stained pillowcase to make yarn, and now using the fabric yarn to try and make … a basket? Rug? Something useful.

Make sure to check out this show! I love everything about Cut Me Up and it’s call-and-response, transformational aims. 🩵 🩵🩵

Resegregation, Coups, and the Importance of Precise Language. Karen Attiah: the assault on diversity, equity and inclusion is actually aimed at resegregation. Orwell: “Political language…is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable”. [kottke.org]

Sharing to boost signal. Call or email. Do I have a lot of faith it’ll change things? No. Do I wish I could do this more easily via social media? Maybe. Am I still making calls every day? Yes.

“chaos & cover” Paper, tissue, acrylic paint, sandpaper This work isn’t new, but felt right for the Februllage CHAOS prompt in today’s America. Wondering about all we *don’t* know, the threats we can’t even imagine. Keep fighting for truth and justice, keep looking, keep trying 🖤 #februllage2025

Love that I live walking distance from our library. Checked out a couple new books yesterday, so I can make useful home goods while pondering my eccentricity 😂 (can one casually read about women on the spectrum without wondering, am I ….?)

“everybody knows” 4x5” Paper, punches, ink, glue A nod to Leonard Cohen for the Februllage day 4 prompt DICE. As the song goes, “Everybody knows that the dice are loaded/Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.” #februllage2025 #rollthedice #collage

Been trying to make calls every day. @5calls.org has useful guidance if you’re interested. Doesn’t feel like enough, and still better than succumbing to ennui. 🤳☎️📱📞

It feels silly to note it’s National Golden Retriever Day, but joy is resistance & this half-retriever’s a big source of mine. Lily’s my love, a sucker for a belly rub & sure she comes on strong and has eaten more of my paper than I’d like, but I wouldn’t have her any other way 🐾🐶🐾

Recommendation to check out artist Della Wells. Self taught, multidisciplinary storyteller. One of my all-time favorite collage artists. There are many galleries where you can see her work: portraitsocietygallery, edingallery, mainstreetgallery, davidbarnettgallery #blackhistory #collage

For Februllage day 3 SCHOOL prompt “good-by to the dear old school day” Paper, vintage instructional aid Is the American public school system going to last? Worried it may become a thing of the past, so meditated on it a bit. #februllage #februllage2025 #collage
