Finding out didn't take long.
Southwest said, "rebook to Thursday or Friday." I'd arrive after presentation slot, so going to weather nature at home.
Missing SWPACA is bittersweet, but my cat is thrilled.

Digital cultural heritage is real cultural heritage. So much thought and work and care and consultation went into the government site I archived on Friday. So many things have been wiped on the basis of keywords-- I don't have words. It's too close to the images of bombed-out libraries in Ukraine.

oh, I have one.
to add: this carpet was incredibly plush and made pushing my wheelchair a ridiculous arm workout.

I have friends who work on mutual aid networks but don't mask in public when they're sick. Some of the most vocal labor activists I know leave the communal break room at work trashed for others to clean.
How we act in community with each other is the foundation of how we do our work in the world.

Drove by a park a few months back that was running their sprinklers in the middle of a storm.
Government wise: time/day restrictions on using water, being asked to reuse water, and "don't flush the toilet unless..." Normal when the severe drought was _too_ severe.
& air quality because dry/dust.

Moving to the Midwest from the West, the biggest culture shock has been the amount of water. It's everywhere and used so freely here. There are no fist fights over irrigation/water rights, no talks of snow pack being too high/low, no sprinklers in yards.
And that's just on the individual level.

The institution eventually relented and ~allowed~ me to book my own flight and hotel, but informed me they would only reimburse up to what it would have cost to book through their travel agency.
The job market sucks for everyone -- but it sucks more for others.

To add to the problems, the institution and I went back and forth for weeks about travel plans. They didn't want to reimburse me for booking my own flight, but it was absolutely necessary. I have to work with TSA and the airline to ensure accessibility needs are met and everything runs smoothly.

The schedule I received: meeting with ADA coordinator; no time between meetings at all (everything was scheduled to the minute); in place of a walking tour, the schedule that is distributed to all parties read "candidate refused walking tour"; and movement between three buildings.

I got a campus visit to that institution. In arranging the schedule, I asked for the following: meeting with the ADA coordinator; extra travel time between meetings; no walking tour (limited mobility); and limited movement between buildings.
These are reasonable requests.
