Just makes me heartsick. (The situation, not your work, to be clear.)

I totally relate. Hoping you continue, if only for art’s sake. (But I also hope that you get the big break you’re hoping for—and that you deserve.) Without even looking at your portfolio, Anja, I can easily call to mind a dozen or so of your photos that have impacted me.

Likewise. I agree, it seems pleasant enough here. I enjoy the artful ways that some folks are using this shiny new tool, but I’m also seeing a lot of shitpics, screenshots of text, and political re-posts, none of which I want to see. So I am pacing myself. Anyhow, hope you’re doing well, Rick!

Richard Yarde was my favorite painting professor during my time at UMass. ❤️

I feel like it is still searching for what it is to become. It still needs better tools and better designs. And maybe an increased character limit. But it gets a lot right that IG and FB get very wrong, i.e. there’s not much bloat. (Yet?) I kinda want personal blogs to make a comeback.

Fantastic work! I love seeing your art, especially as an antidote to all of the (unfortunately necessary) political posts on this platform. 🙌

I am glad that this techy thing did not mess with your crop, which is 👌.

I agree. And I like your use of this forum for this purpose!

But I also value the community that we’ve all built over a period of years, if not decades. It’s not something I take for granted, nor could I kiss it goodbye without a lot of consideration, and pain.

In addition to the reasons related to evil (we’ve made one dude rich by giving away our personal info and our work), there’s the fact that the FB and IG apps have undergone such enshittification. Stories, Reels, Notes, AI videos and vids of people getting hurt. It’s a lot that I don’t want to see.

It is bizarre how this has become one of the most gut-wrenching topics of the day, in my world. To leave Meta (and X) or to stay. There are compelling arguments on both sides. I’m in the camp of “take my time, don’t act rashly, listen to all the wisdom of others, and take lots of self-care breaks.”

I just went back and watched that video, and loved it. “So Midwest Emo.” Thanks for the tip! It was inspiring how humble and transparent they were about having to sunset those products. And their nuanced conclusion that even though the ROSS line was a commercial failure, it was a creative necessity.

Don’t be misled by the clickbaity title or video thumbnail—this is a really thoughtful piece. It’s a bit slow-moving—as befits a Southern gentleman—but that’s partly the point.
As an aside, I own a couple of JHS pedals, and they are awesome: a Pulp & Peel compressor and a Lucky Cat delay.

In my excitement to share the experience, I neglected the craft of subtle audio mixing. Sorry for the jarring static sound—it is the *opposite* of what I intended! Glad you appreciate the visual. 😊

The items you mention are nice! I would add: mustard (all kinds), Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, and my favorite, cardamom. I also keep a dedicated burr grinder filled with chia, flax, and black cumin seeds, which I grind and cook into my daily oatmeal. Pistachios, pecans, pepitas, walnuts. ACV.

It seems like this platform is pretty welcoming (or at least tolerant) of the #artnude.
