i just wanna underline the somewhat-obvious-but-mostly-ignored point that being in a gang is NOT a crime. the reason ppl aren't pushing back on alleged gang membership as the premise for incarceration/deportation is bc people think gang membership (or even "gang ties") is criminal. It's not.

It's going to be real hard for me to get over the fact that a lot of people supposedly worried about the welfare and rights of these kids in 2024 effectively voted (by not voting in many cases) for them to be arrested and deported. And if they couldn't have anticipated this they fucking should have.

This kid did everything right. He was escaping communism for a better life in the US. He filled out the right forms, the right paperwork. Got a job. So his reward was to get kidnapped and sent to rot and die in a foreign gulag.

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

America's home-grown violent criminals includes hundreds of people who attacked the US on Jan. 6, 2021. With due process, they were found guilty of felonies in court by unanimous juries. These criminals are now out of jail, not rendered to El Salvador without due process, because Trump let them out.
