Thursday morning I would have said that Janet Mills is too old to run for the Senate. Now I am not so sure - if she can beat Collins (and I think she can) I would be happy to vote for her. I trust her to assess her own health and vitality (which she seems to have in abundance.) #mepolitics

Gov. Mills showed precisely the sort of integrity in the face of political pressure that the majority of the party currently lacks. More importantly, she did so extemporaneously and without hesitation from a purple state where this isn't a universally popular position. www.maine.gov/governor/mil...

Thanks to @aobrien2024.bsky.social for this graphic. We are incredibly proud of our governor Janet Mills. She is a model others should be following. #mepolitics

Governor Mills of Maine has more courage than every single GOP politician in USA. More of this please, Trump is a f’n coward, stand up to him. Stand up for USA. F*ck MAGA.

“The State of Maine will not be intimidated by the President’s threats,” Gov. Janet Mills said. www.pressherald.com/2025/02/21/t...

C‘mon, Maine journos!

A missive from the Vichy Democrats. In case you have not been scolded enough today or reminded recently that we are in fact the ones responsible for what is going on in the Trump administration. #mepolitics

I want This job 🐼😂

I'm normally cynical about politicians but this is statesmanship. It is affirming republican civic virtue. Not irony-poisoned snark, not focus-grouped talking points. The oath to the Constitution matters, and it's time to speak plainly and earnestly about how our fundamental principles are at stake.

We have added @trumpgolftrack.com to Bluesky. Please follow and pass on!

the amusing thing is they're too fucking idiotic to know the both sides, "view from nowhere" reporting most of these outlets do has been of great benefit to normalizing and defending the authoritarian mission

There's a bigger problem for Democrats here, which is that their actual position - it's good to pay taxes for better services, but the rich should pay more - is barely defended in campaign season. Even in 2024, when taxes were barely a campaign issue.

I just want to say that I'd really love to talk to the @nytimes.com reporter that undertook the effort to "independently verify that Jim Crow happened." Would really love a full accounting of what they uncovered, sounds like a really interesting use of journalistic resources.

Here’s a small, easy thing Dem communicators can do: when stories like this break, call the reporters and a) ask to be contacted going forward on stories within their jurisdiction, b) give them a blistering statement, c) blast it out on all channels. www.nbcnews.com/politics/dog...

A drug addict who makes cars that spontaneously explode, plows into cops, and crash at much higher rates than other cars, is going to fix the air traffic control system? I'm not getting on a plane until this drug-addled illegal immigrant is deported or imprisoned.

"Authoritarians try to crush independent referees and civil society institutions, including news organizations, universities, statistical agencies and central banks." www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/o... Grouping newsrooms with central banks, universities, the Bureau of Labor Statistics gets it right.

Yeah, this is pretty obvious but worth stressing. Also, the idea that techbro coders with no experience in government are best able to identify and root out “fraud” is laughable

This is a fantastic resource for tracking bills in Congress and state legislatures. The text search, in particular, is really helpful for identifying specific initiatives when contacting representatives. (Thanks to Craig for sharing!)

Rally and march to protest corrupt and compromised Eric Adams. Great speakers including @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social who is running for Mayor. @riseandresist.bsky.social @maketheroadny.bsky.social and many others out in force. #kathyhochuldoyourjob #fireericadams

Do yourself a favor and read every word of this from @froomkin.bsky.social. It's a great list of real stuff to do to fight back against Trump/ Musk.

Years ago I interviewed Maine's two moderate Republican women senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, for the debut issue of the Portland Phoenix. Snowe struck me as really smart and interesting. The end.

“Parental choice” to let kids get dangerous preventable diseases needs to be reframed as what it is: child abuse

“What lies on the other end of those phone calls isn’t a burden, it’s an opportunity. Grow up, get over yourselves, and get back in the game.”

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

Listen, if you're not in the White House Press Room, you'll miss huge scoops like a list of BS reasons why Elon is allowed to plunder the US government. You'd have to Google it;

Emil Bove did the meme.

most dangerous place in DC is between a Democratic Senator and their three-day weekend

I mean, there's nothing left to say at this point. Lisa Murkowski & Susan Collins are national embarassments, & Article I of the Constitution has failed completely. At some point, we need adults who swore oaths to act like it, & it seems like we don't have any of them left. bsky.app/profile/mcop...

This is from a 2020 presentation. Now it's just the chaos we live in, and no such description is needed.
