Some pix of my recent little kayak voyage around the bay camping overnight at Cable Bay

Breadcrumbs map of my little local kayak camping trip from yesterday and the day before with an overnight camp at Cable Bay on Ruapukapuka island. This is the Bay of Islands, Aotearoa, (NZ)

While waiting to spot my son competing on his kiteboard in the BOI Foiling regatta, we spotted a gaff-rigged square topsail schooner slip beneath the headland where we waited. The R Tucker Thompson sliding gently by in light airs. Kent Passage in the distance.

An old but much-loved photo of oraca, shot near my home in the Bay of Islands, Aotearoa (New Zealand).

Surprise! Surprise!

This is a good way to use AI. It's an example of "The power of honest fiction" which has been my battle-cry for years. In this era of dishonest non-fiction, fiction is by far the more honest choice to make your point.

Tui Allen ‪@tuiallendolphins.bsky.social‬ I'm so lucky to live in this beautiful place, and have the power to glide around it in my little waka. It is the setting of my Dolphin Melody story. youtu.be/uRbD_JacJpo

If humans could communicate with the animals they eat, as efficiently as we communicate with one another, would we stop eating them? Would we better respect their share of this planet? #vegan

I cannot prove that this is true. But can you prove that it is untrue? If not, may we give all whales the benefit of the doubt?

i was out in Echo, (my kayak) today and saw no sharks, dolphins, rays, or big fish, but the gannets were in spectacular form - diving from great heights and sending plumes of water sky high. Breathtaking to watch and it was all happening right across my bows.

So great to see this crew on Bluesky. Support them if you care about environmental literature. They sure do. EcoLit Books @ecolit.bsky.social

A peaceful day out kayaking around the eastern end of Motuarohia. No dolphins this time but I got to socialise with one lovely big black ray. The weather was cloudy, cool and mostly calm.

Our tiny and rare Māui and Hector’s dolphins are so terribly endangered, I encourage everyone to sign this petition to our government to help save them.
