So atmospheric on more levels than one.

I love the idea of octopodes (my favourite plural) riding around on dolphins. I often imagine dolphins choosing to keep them as, not pets, but friends, useful for their eight clever minions.

Fishing causes this horror. It is environmental crime to do this to sharks. Ecocide. I will never eat fish. It supports the evil industry that perpetrates this crime. Sharks always flee from my kayak when they meet me on the sea. In terror perhaps?

i follow you because you are vegan. I like all vegans. Please talk about it whenever you wish.

And why shouldn't you? Ignoring veganism is like allowing nuclear missiles.

The horror of the cetacean entanglement experience haunts me. I will not eat fish because it encourages the fishing industry who leave these nightmare traps in the sea.

My question is, "Can anyone DISprove the statement in this graphic?"
I know I can't prove it, but can anyone disprove it conclusively?
I do have some logical reasons for believing it possible, which I'm happy to share if required.

LOL! 🤣 I’m sure both places are just as lovely in their own way. But you’d always be welcome here if it came down to that. 😂

Just found this. Thanks Lola. I'mimpressed to hear you had a similar experience. Never been to Tasmania but I've heard it's beautiful. Get in touch if you ever paddle the Bay of Islands again.

It is bizarre. Non-vegans have no idea of their own hypocrisy every time they claim to love animals, with their mouths full of meat.

It is the incredibly bloodthirsty history of the Christian religion which puts me off more than anything else. The next most off-putting thing is its money-thirst.

I noted your interest in "the connections between fiction and animal rights". It reminded me of what I heard about the effect of the novel "Black Beauty". It proved a greater force for horse welfare than the 100s of non-fiction horse books written because BB pioneered an animal POV in fiction.

I noticed that you are an "obsessive birder". Have you ever visited Aotearoa (New Zealand) where I live? We have some endemic bird (and dolphin) species here. I live in a part of Northland that has wild kiwi. I've seen them on the road at night.

So great to see Ecolit books here on Bluesky.

I was keen to read Richard Powers "Playground" but could only find a print version. Any chance of an e-book? My weak eyes require enlargable fonts.

After reading this review, I just had to go and buy the e-book, even though my eye issues make audio books far easier for me. I wrote my eco-novels of "ocean mind" about communications between animals in the sea and the cosmos, but trees! WOW! Can't wait to read. Will review if I like it.

Thank-you for those lovely words Jo. I needed it in a time when I began to think nobody would want to read Melody.

Same here. That "food" does not even slightly tempt me.

It's a funny thing. Back in my pre-vegan days, I was always trying and often failing to use willpower to eat less calories. But once I went vegan, it was a question of ethics, and suddenly willpower wasn't even needed. Not even tempted to eat animal products.

This is so pithy. I love it and will use it, next time someone gets all threatened by my veganism.

I'm always happy when whales are freed, but it makes me worry even more about those many more, not lucky enough to be found, let alone freed. Far too many I suspect. Our species causes this so we must stop it happening in the first place. For a start, don't support the fishing industry.

You wonder why a colour-scheme like that would evolve. So intriguing.

Wonder why there's one who's white bits are yellow? Also loved the one with the baby heading in the opposite direction.

I always knew my country (NZ) was really on top of the world. Never could work out why they call my hemisphere "down-under." In my teaching days I always wanted to find a map with South at the top of the page and all countries upside down. Still fully accurate but makes the kids think.

My bread is also far far nicer in texture and flavour than store-bought, and it takes 5 minutes per loaf of prep time. I use a breadmaker tool. Always make healthy wholemeal too.

I don't know how you made your bread at home to make it cost so much but mine costs a fraction of what I'd pay in a shop. Haven't bought bread for years. Disagree about the packaging. Any plastic is deadly to my marine friends, specially now the ocean is breaching and releasing human garbage tips

I believe the meat industry actively seeks out "Influencers" (people who already have a large audience who follow everything they say). Then the meat industry offers them so much money they can't refuse to tell lies about their cruel, unhealthy and enviro-dangerous product.
